I think the 8 justices currently on SCOTUS are horrified at what is going on. I think that each one of them are thinking... “Geez. I’m glad nobody searched deep into my high school years because there are things there that they would certainly consider disqualifying.” I think they are disgusted that the argument is coming down to what was written in his HS yearbook and the fact that he likes beer.

It’s a travesty. Nobody is a saint. Nobody has made Kavanaugh out to be a saint. He’s human - just like the other 8 justices who have been confirmed. And, simply because people have leveled false allegations at him, we have come to this. It’s pathetic.

I agree that they are likely horrified. I disagree about why. I doubt any of them had this kind of background (even Thomas) that warranted such scrutiny. The issue is the nominee.

He never should have lied about the drinking. He was trying to avoid any possibility that he could have attacked Ford and not remembered, but he just looks ridiculous now. I mean, FFS, he pledged a fraternity and was involved in bar fights. Did he really think nobody would speak up?

It's called hubris. And he is full of it.

Yep, this.

#LeftyLies
He was not “involved in bar fights.” He happened to be present.
He never lied about his drinking.
He did not attack Ford.

The only truth you have stated is that he pledged a fraternity.

Personally I highly, highly doubt that.

But, I would LOVE for people to start investigating all of the Senators and Representatives and SCJs. The truth will set you free. And I will bet you ten dollars right now that the ladies on the court come back very, very clean.

I guarantee you that you’d find something disqualifying that each of them did. Whether you would admit it or not is another story. People are not perfect. Did one of the justices smoke pot? Did one of the justices make a remark that could be considered disparaging to a protected group? Did one of the justices file a tax return that doesn’t meet your standards? Did one of the justices <gasp> drink alcohol in HS? Were any of the justices treated for a health condition you might consider disqualifying - depression, ADHD, something else?
You can find something that would not meet with your approval.

None of the things you just listed would disqualify Kavanaugh.

Sure. But, entries in his yearbook and drinking beer in HS does. #Hypocrites.

Exactly none of the things you listed would be disqualifying.

Ginsburgs nomination was pulled because of marijuana, but we live in a different time now. Disclose it and affirm you are using it illegally now and you are fine.
I don't think any of the justices have made inappropriate remarks about classes of people. That would have been vetted for impartiality.
re tax returns, if the IRS is good, you are good. There is no third party standard. This is routine in a background check.
Drinking alcohol in high school is not and was not disqualifying. Lying about drinking in high school during the confirmation process would be disqualifying.
Health conditions - that could be an issue, but if you have made it through life managing it, then all good.

So let's stop the hyperbole. The issue is Kavanaugh and his lack of candor and his lack of judicial temperment.

I'm still waiting for your summary of CBFs lies, by the way.

Yes, I'm a lefty, but I've never thrown ice at someone and "been present" when the police are called for a bar fight.
He has lied about his drinking multiple times.
I did not say he attacked Ford, only that an admission of ever being blackout drunk would open him up to the possibility that he did. For some reason, women's memories are considered faulty when they drink to excess, but men are considered truthful unless there are multiple witnesses or actual videotape.

Ford is torpedoed on her polygraph lies.

Kavanaugh goes through.

Our new AG should #lockherup

+1. I can only hope that the current judges are unified in their upholding of the dignity of the SCOTUS. If they agree on one thing, it may be that BK should not have lied under oath. However small those lies are, he was foolish to deny his boorish highschool and college behavior. He should have admitted to his drinking, claimed youthful stupidity, and apologized sincerely for behavior that he would now not condone. He should definitely not have highlighted his political partisanship. I'm no BK fan, but I would have been more accepting of his nomination had he been truthful, remorseful, and highlighted his more recent record of promoting women in the legal profession.

Agree. The SCJs hold the Canons sacred, as does the Bar.

I wasn’t the one who said she lied. But, since you asked. I do believe she made up the whole story. I didn’t believe that at first, but as more is revealed, I do now.
And, given her former boyfriend’s letter to officials, it seems she did lie regarding her fear of flying and her coaching of a friend on a polygraph. She lied to her former boyfriend about credit card charges. Why not now?

Unfortunate that Ford lie under oath.
