So you are literally attacking a rape victim by how she dresses and does her hair for something that is going to be televised all over the world? I usually wear jeans with paint on them, tshirts so faded you can't even read them, and only wear makeup when I have a meeting or a party (so maybe once a month) - if I were in this position I would not show to the senate judiciary hearing looking like I usually do. Way to attack the victim there. Pat yourself on the back. |
Poor baby. |
In this new big brother era of everything recorded all the time, is this the last former frat party boy to get that much power? |
Words have meaning, bub. How many dozen women ON THIS SITE have said that something very similar to what Dr Ford describes happened to them? So it doesn’t stretch all plausibility in the slightest. You’re just determined not to believe her. |
Since we are talking about Devil's Triangle last night, I want to point at that is exactly what happened to this girl:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2018/opinions/arlington-texas/?utm_term=.634fd4c8daf1 It was 24 years after Dr. Ford was attacked. She reported it. A rape exam showed trauma, there was DNA evidence, and yet the prosecutor and grand jury did not go for an indictment. Oftentimes, prosecutors only go for the cases where it is a slam dunk, unfortunately. Rape and sexual assault is one of the very few crimes (unlike robbery for example) where a victim's accusation (which sends people to court in most cases) is unlikely to even go to arrest or an indictment. In most other crimes, a victim's statement is enough. It is very sad but slowly changing. Not fast enough for the rest of us when we have these dinosaur prosecutors and dinosaur grand juries though. |
After the bright lights of the hearing have faded away people are questioning substance of Ford's story as not passing the common sense test: In the alleged assault, Ford says in her oral testimony she went upstairs to use the bathroom and her assailants came up from “behind her” and pushed her into a bedroom where “there was music playing in the bedroom”. Who turned on the music? If the assailants came in from behind her, it would not have been the assailants who turned the music on. Who leaves music playing in a bedroom that is empty? Ford says in her testimony that there was no music or TV playing in the first floor living room where the main gathering was taking place and where everybody was drinking beer. How many teenage summer parties have you been to where there is NO music playing (esp in the 80's)? |
It wasn’t a party. It was 6 people. |
Sure, go ahead. Submit to a polygraph, make sure you told some friends about it at least 5 years ago and be willing to trash your life in front of the world (and also be subject to 5 years in jail for perjury.) No one is believing this blindly, but the lengths the GOP and Kavanaugh are going to (Ed Whelan, lying, belligerant actions) make it look like Kavanaugh is not innocent. |
Hey, it’s always about how the woman looks, right? |
Good point. And Ford’s friend, Leland, has stated she does not know Kavanaugh. This, in itself, makes her claim questionable. A gathering of 6 people. And, she doesn’t know Kavanaugh. It makes no sense. |
No prosecutor would actually write or release this report. And it has holes itself in that it is not complete with respect to Kavanaugh. The goal of these hearings are suitability for a supreme court seat, not to prosecute anyone. It isn't that hard to understand. |
She is not making it up. She remembers the attack clearly. His work on the court will not be respected by many. |
And yet, she has NO REASON to lie. The Democrats do, but she personally has no reason to make this up and destroy her life. I don’t care how much the gofundme is. |
+1. Also, memory and trauma experts have weighed in about how memories of trauma can manifest in these situations—some peripheral details can fade, while others remain crystal clear. Alternatively, some victims can dissociate or “black out” during all or parts of a traumatic event, leaving their memories even more piece-y. Memory lapses don’t disprove that a trauma occurred. I posted an NPR article discussing this in the last thread, although it was immediately dismissed by Kavanaugh supporters as speculation. |
This was already discussed, and so tiresome. BUT for those who weren't around in the 80s and 90s, music was nowhere near as portable as it is now. I myself went to parties where music was playing in a teen's bedroom because they had their stereo in there. It was a big clunky thing. I don't know how you could discount a victim by saying "when was there a party where no music was playing on the first floor?" Ridiculous. |
