That group has a very valid point re: lack of disclosure and process. Read their last paragraph again.

And if a brand new, beautiful high school had suddenly been purchased in say, the McLean or Great Falls area with no disclosure or transparency, we all know exactly what kind of criticism and fallout would occur.

If there was a "new Rich People high school" bond and plan on the books for 15+ years? No one would be surprised.

As a reminder only $25 million had been bonded and earmarked for a new western HS. The other $125M had not been funded in a bond so they are going to have to defer other projects which to date haven’t been identified.

You aren’t allowed to ask questions! Just give them the $150 million, no questions asked.

Centreville expansion is funded at $300 million. it can be scaled back--not eliminated or deferred. It can go on schedule and still get expanded--just not to 3000 students.

And she’s back, pretending to have all the answers when the school board has given us none.

You do realize this is speculation based on readily available information? This is just an example of something that could easily be adapted.

You seem to be averse to suggestions of how it could be paid for.

KAA can ultimately help Centreville overcrowding. So, the need for a $300 million dollar expansion could be scaled back. Do you have a problem with that?

I want to hear from the school board or fcps, not armchair quarterback moms on dcum speculating in an attempt to avoid good governance because they stand to benefit from the purchase.

People are right to ask questions, especially since it seems that staff at gatehouse has concerns.

So, you think the poster who says staff has a problem has more credibility than a mom using the CIP as a guide for speculation?

Mom speculating based on the CIP admits to speculation. Random poster "hearing" that staff has a problem has total credibility. Got it.

The sale has not closed. I suspect we will learn more once it closes. But, just to be clear, that is "speculation."

Centreville's enrollment is declining, they aren't really overcrowded.

Good. Hopefully, they can move in Willow Spring.

Carson has 273 kids from Franklin --I assume it is almost all AAP.

That includes: Oak Hill; Navy; Waples Mill?; Lee's Corner
So, that brings Carson to0 1000. Double that and it reaches 2000 for high school.

This is all conjecture based on vague guesses bas 8ed on four years of elementary schools:
Fox Mill goes to South Lakes. That reduces Westfield attendees by around 400 (some are at AAP at Oak Hill)
So, now, Westfield would be 1600 Carson kids.
Crossfield has 325-350 so that brings 1200-1275 of Carson from Westfield
Floris has around 400 (some AAP might be at McNair) so that brings around 1000 being pulled from Westfield

One school being moved in should do the trick at Westfield. Also, 42 were selected this year for TJ. If that is typical, then I would guess at around 70-80 over four years.

What are you talking about?? Westfield is a high school, not a middle school. Fox Mill and Crossfield and half of Floris don't feed to Floris. You are making no sense at all.

Sorry should have said - don't feed to Westfield.

concerns about the KAA site and it’s feasibility to fulfill the needs of an FCPS HS. Lack of outdoor space and a need to expand the indoor space are major issues that will cost lots of money and time to address. If it becomes a standard HS they will need a couple years to get it ready.

Oh yeah. I tooooootally believe you. cough*bullshit*cough

For what it’s worth, I’ve heard of similar sentiments coming from staff. No idea who the original poster of the info is btw.

I think if they can aim to have the current crop of 7th graders in the new school for 9th, that would be perfect. Let's do boundary adjustments and start the new high school up in the fall of 2027. Yes, that adjusts the timeline for the boundary adjustments but it's stupid do these two things separately.

We live in Hampton Chase and do NOT want to move from FHS. We love the school and community. Centreville HS would be a
huge downgrade.

It is sad when your news comes from an anonymous forum. WAPO needs to step up. I read it daily. Almost nothing about FCPS. Metro "section" is now two pages--and most of it is obituaries--and the big ones are seldom local.

Cancel your subscription. It's completely worthless.

Riiiiiiiight. Good one. I'm recalling some of the twits on this site who couldn't contain their outrage and derision when Langley FINALLY underwent its long-planned renovation - that had also been on the books and in the queue for many years.

A large percentage of Carson are AAP. kids - all the Navy kids will go to Oakton and that's probably half of AAP.

I hope they simply do away with AAP centers as part of these boundary changes. All they do is confuse everything, in addition to being redundant and wasteful.

I agree, but it is unlikely. In any case, Navy does send AAP, but it is far from half of AAP at Carson. You also have Oak Hill AAP and, Lees Corner in addition to all AAP from Carson boundary.

You think the school board is going to reply to you here? Let the other mom's talk too. You dominate these threads saying the same thing over and over. We've all read it. You can't seem to let anyone else speak without repeating yourself again.

KAA will be used as a speciality center for kids with IEPs. No more slowing down other classes. These kids will finally get the attention and resources they need. A TJ for kids who need a little extra help.
