Buckle up. It's going to be a very interesting fall.

I can see the board populating the new school one class at a time. That way, the older students finish at their original schools. So, that's a silver lining.

I'm so confused about how you think Langley and McLean could send kids to Westfield, LOL

Might be a domino effect.

Domino effect all the way to California! Again, if you are going to troll, you gotta make it semi-plausible.

This. Domino effect is clearly what they are saying. McLean is over capacity...so sending seats to Langley helps.Similarly, Langley sending a feeder to Herndon helps. South lakes and Centreville and Westfield are all in play. Even Oakton has a split feeder that may be re routed to the new school.

Its not crazy. It actually is entirely plausible.

These two things are not like each other.

McLean is still overcrowded, so moving the portion of the Spring Hill split feeder that goes to McLean to Langley could help with overcrowding there.

Langley is not overcrowded, and its current enrollment includes roughy 100 kids pupil placing. If Langley starts to get overcrowded, they can eliminate those pupil placements, just like McLean did years ago. There's no need to send anyone to Herndon to "help" Langley, as much as you might like to reassign some Langley students.

Good. Stay put. Just quit trying to shut down KAA because you are worried about being shifted in the future.

I'm neither trying to shut down KAA nor worried about getting moved in the future. However, the situations at McLean and Langley are not "similar."

But, one of your friends is.

DP. Assuming you are referring to me, I’ll remind you for the millionth time that pushing for the school board to disclose more info about the $150m KAA purchase does not mean I’m trying to “shut down KAA” whatever that even means.

You really are stuck in your own little narrative.

It will become Gatehouse west. Gotta spread out the bloated administrative ranks into classy digs to make up for too small of a pay increase.

So changes predicated on changes to the AAP program are not really reality based.

I completely disagree. I think there have been so many complaints about centers and their complete redundancy that the SB has certainly talked about this issue. How could they not?

Ricardy Anderson proposed amendment to 8130 includes NO grandfathering when FCPS opens or closes a HS. https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=DJ8NH55FDCB0

KAA opens with 9-12? No transportation for students stuck in IB at South Lakes and finishing the diploma?

The AAP Center MS issue should be addressed as part of a comprehensive boundary review. There is zero reason taxpayers should be funding 2 buses running through the same neighborhoods. And Level iv went in at random- no big plan divisionwide.

FCPS budget questions and responses 2026 are NO longer available online. Dunne asked about the cost of establishing AAP at Whitman and was told zero. 26 middle schools and 4 have in boundary only AAP: Longfellow, Cooper, South County, Fairfax's Johnson.

FCPS has streets located off Hunter Mill RD near Sunrise Valley ES with this feed- Oakton ES, Thoreau, Madison. AAP Sunrise Valley and AAP Jackson. This is the kind of junk we all pay for...

In the case of a new school, I am pretty sure that it might not open with a senior class. Not sure what Fairfax does. Does anyone remember when South County opened? Westfield?

As for the IB issue raised by PP, I am confident they would address that. (Another reason to eliminate IB.) In the case of KAA, I'm not sure any South Lakes kids will be assigned there, in any case.

I did a little digging into Westfield opening in 2000. At the time it opened it drew from Centreville, Chantilly, and Oakton, and the boundaries of Fairfax and Robinson were also adjusted.

Rising seniors at Centreville, Chantilly, and Oakton were grandfathered, so Westfield opened as a 9-11 school. Apparently rising 11th graders were given an option to attend Westfield or stay at their current schools the year Westfield opened, but that option was contingent on at least 300 students from Centreville, Chantilly, and Oakton opting to attend Westfield. If fewer than 300 rising 11th graders from the three schools agreed to attend Westfield, the option was to be voided with all rising 11th graders required to attend Westfield. Basically, they wanted to make sure Westfield had at least 300 juniors when it opened.

Floris is a split feeder - half goes to SLHS. Given where SLHS and KAA are, all of Floris should go to KAA.

Sounds like a reasonable policy.

Appreciate the doggedness in tracking this down, but it’s worth highlighting that it was 25 years ago, and the make up of our county has changed a lot since then.

It was the same approach as Loudoun has followed far more recently.
