“Identity politics;” only old white straight Christian-identified cis men need apply for anything and anyone who does not meet these criteria is only where they are due to identity politics. Why are you on this thread. |
hoteps vote too - and wont for harris or rice |
LSA has a better pulse of the black community nationwide compared to bougie DCUMers. |
Why am I on this thread? Because I care about getting Biden elected. I care about making sure that he picks a VP that will help him get elected instead of worrying about the identity of the candidate. Defeating Trump and getting Biden elected are far more important than the advancement of the first <subdemographic> to be elected VPOTUS. So, doing what is best for Biden is more important than doing what is best for race or minority progress. If you place more emphasis on making demographics progress than you place on actually winning the election in November, then I think you have the wrong priorities. I have been lobbying for good qualified women candidates like Grisham and Duckworth. That hardly fits your accusation that only "old white straight Christian-identified cis men" need apply. |
It is too late for that. When Biden committed to picking a female VP, this was the predictable logical conclusion - he needs to pick a black female VP. He should not have boxed himself in like that. Why is Elizabeth Warren a VP candidate and not Cory Booker? It was a dumb move by Biden. Definitely prioritize diversity by no reason to show all your cards and constrain yourself like that. |
I not emphasizing demographic progress over winning. |
Biden should resign and candidate and allow a Warren/ Booker ticket. |
Oh, then why was your criticism of Lujan Grisham solely based on her heritage. Your comment criticizing her was:
Tell me what that says about her qualifications (or lack thereof) for the VPOTUS position. It says nothing other than she doesn't check your identity politics boxes. As I said, I think you have the wrong priorities. Picking someone or ruling someone out solely on their demographics, not on their political qualifications. |
I really don't care, do you? It could be Daffy Duck as long as he wins |
Kiss of death. |
“Current Governor wwho served multiple terms in the House of Representatives“ was fine for Mike Pence, I’m not sure why it makes you think “identity politics” when applied to Lujan Grisham. Care to share with the class? |
That would be fine. But the only complaint that Ms. Eyeroll up there had is that Lujan Grisham is a blond, green-eyed Basque descendant. Why is that a criticism? It shouldn't be for a VP candidate. It's completely irrelevant for her qualifications or disqualifications for the office. It should be a non-sequitur, but this person seems to think that it is relevant. That's the point of my comment; that she places too much emphasis on the person's identity and demographics than she places on the candidate's qualifications for the job. I agree with you that "Current governor who served multiple terms in the House of Representatives" is a good synopsis of her basic qualifications. |
That wasn’t me, dude. That was another pp. |
+1 This is very appealing |
In terms of experience, she is solid, more so than about half of the other prospects. But she was not a terribly effective legislator, and not much in the way of congressional leadership: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/michelle_lujan_grisham/412558 |
