Can we talk about parents buying their adult children luxury homes

Anonymous
Who cares if we buy starter homes for our kids for $2-3m each? SMH.

If i can do it, i would. My own immigrant oarents helped me with the downpayment. Im so grateful.

That wasn’t her point. It’s the adult kids who get handouts but still look down at her for her place in life and pretend like they made it themselves. Give your kids money, but I hope they don’t pretend like they earned it or begrudge those who have to scrape out their own livings. It’s the façade that gets me!

Maybe. You can use the family name or lasting wealth to marry to someone wealthy.

Realistically if you want to pass down "generational wealth" it would be much better to do it by owning a successful business and getting your kids involved with it than just handing them money or a house. They develop no business or money management skills. The latter is just having "kept" kids-no different than a spoiled pet.

Begrudge what? No one cares what is happening in your life because people are focused on their own. No one cares about what kind of insecurity or inferiority complex the OP suffers from. She should let go of her jealousy and focus on her own life. She is not that important to others. And yes, some people are fortunate that their parents can help them. What should the rich parents of millennials do? Give their money in charity to OP because she is poor, angry and jealous?

Geez! More immigrants come with nothing and they build up their wealth for their children. Probably OP is richer than some immigrant who came in the country today. That person will also build their wealth in a few years, more than what OP can do with the victim attitude.

That point is irrelevant. Anyone who begrudges or looks down on another human being for their position in life is garbage, regardless of how they achieved their own position. Earning your money completely with zero help doesn’t give you the right to look down on others and get a pass from being a garbage individual. Hence why OP comes across as pretty much garbage himself / herself.

The anger here is unbelievable. I’m guessing most of you are not self made but probably like to present yourself as such and this struck a nerve.

Nice try, OP, but you’ve already been outed as generally awful. We get it, you don’t like people that are even more privileged than your privileged self. Let the thread die already.

This would be good but it's not how it works out when you're talking about major wealth.

I just don't understand this. How on earth would I "present myself" as self-made? If you know my job and where I live, you know the story. Or at least that I had some windfall. If you know my parents, you know even more! I just don't think this "pretending to be self-made" thing exists except in your head. I'm sure there are a lot of people who are your acquaintance who don't immediately explain their finances to you, but that's not at all the same thing. This is a thing you're making up.

Who cares, I'm just glad they aren't my neighbors. I already thought most parts of NOVA were insufferable, as far as I'm concerned they can absorb all the spoiled kids they raised anyway and hopefully they do not take the trip to DC so much.

Attending a private school, I realized early on there is nothing you can do about the facade of others; if they pretend like they earned it, there is nothing you can do about it. Except know that unless a different behavior happens, they will be up the creek at some unspecified time when after their parents die. I've seen it happen over and over again.
