Nice that you are remaining detached and objective in your Ph.D. research. You must be going to a good school as well. Stop annoying people.

Well unfortunately, all public schools are NOT created equal. Especially if you live in a not so desirable part of the District like myself. Even with some financial aid it would be a huge stretch to afford private. We did get into one of the "bigger" named schools but we still have to come out of pocket a ton of money for us (about 13k). So we may have to give up the spot. This is not meaningless AT ALL, it is what we believe to be in the best interest of our OWN child.

The Admission Committee met last week and carefully reviewed all the kindergarten
applications for our very few openings. Although we feel that X would contribute
considerably to “School Big Three”, due to the tremendous number of highly qualified applicants, we regret that we are unable to offer him a place for the fall of 2010. We realize the disappointment that this news will bring and hope that you understand that it in no way reflects a negative evaluation of X’s accomplishments.
It has been a pleasure for all of us to work with you during the application process; X
is a wonderful child. The Admission Committee was faced with difficult decisions, and we
genuinely regret that our small size precludes accepting all of the students who would like to attend “School Big Three”
We very much appreciate your interest and cooperation throughout the admission
process.
Very truly yours,
AD

How many of us know that the process is not genuine, not political correct, not right.
What a sad joke!

And how different would your song be if your DC were admitted? Really, there are hundreds of excellent, well "qualified" children applying for a handful of spots. It is what it is.

Education is not synonymous with tests, scores, connections, siblings, financial donations, political influence, etc. You guys are loosing it completely. I am in this forum because I am doing a PhD on private education issues and you are such a good sample for my qualitative research.

What a load of BS. In reality your behavior demonstrates the old saying, "Its easy to scorn what you cannot have."

What do you really know about reality? As for the comment on my behaviour, it looks yours has been modelled by a stresfull environment.
What are you scorning for?

That rejection letter sounded just like the maret waitlist letter except for a few words! Hilarious that they are basically the same letter! Why not just give everyone the same letter since it means the same thing?!!

When I was in college psych courses, I wrote a "research" paper based on reading articles in teeny-bopper magazines. When I was in graduate school, I took courses in research design and statistics. If I had then written "research" based on self-selected posters writing anonymously on an electronic bulletin board, even billing it as "qualitative", I would not have lasted long in the program.

I am going to disappoint you even more. Our child was critical vis-à-vis that play/interview visit. Consequently, we tacitly abandoned the application process (e.g. not send any school report, test results, teaching recommendation). However, we received that letter. Did the school actually understand what happened with our child? Does that letter accurately reflect the reality?
Food for thought…

You have got to be kidding me! They actually sent you a decision when you didn't complete the application?! We didn't sent recomendations, test scores etc to one school and ofcourse didn't hear anything back.

I am serious. We did apply for two of the big three. For the first one, we did the visit but we did not complete the application process. However, we got that letter on Friday. For the second one, we lost the enthusiasm and decided not show up for the visit. We probably got about 5 calls asking us to complete the visit. We did not because we understood that there are other schools better for our child. I am sharing that piece of info with you. I will never ever apply to these schools again. It takes much more than business acumen to make a school work.

How rude to just not show up or complete the process, but not have the courtesy to let them know you are no longer interested! You made them call you five times and waste their energies on you, and you think they would want you to apply again? Where is your "business acumen"?
