These schools appear to be playing the same game that universities do regarding what they count as a "completed application" to thus improve their yield statistics. That's probably why they were so insistent that you do the visit.

You did not get it! They can make so much money with "clients" like you.

You people are crazy.

We are crazy in love with our children--and are struggling to decide what is best for them.

Whether you tell a school you are no longer interested or leave them hanging and wondering has nothing to do with what is best for your children. It's just lazy and rude.

Frankly, can we just get back to the topic and save the sidebar conversation to another thread. Otherwise no one else will post.

Hi. I am not the poster that you are addressing your question to - sorry I don't mean to interject but I just wanted to give you insight from our experience. We had the choice between Sidwell and Beauvoir a few years ago for our son and we chose Beauvoir and are so happy with our decision. Now that we are at the school and our son is so happy and thriving we can't imagine being anywhere else. Sidwell is a wonderful school as well but based on what my friends that attend the school have said, it does not have the same sense of community that we have found at Beauvoir. They unfortunately have been disappointed by this, as you will spend a lot of time at whatevever school your child attends regardless of whether you work or not and it is nice to feel comfortable there. Good luck to you on your decision!

The schools sent you a rejection letter even though you didn't complete the process to make it perfectly clear that your child would not be attending next year. Applications are a formal process and if you don't close the process, they have to.

Funny comment the off-topic post - How about this:

I didn't complete the application process to Vanderbilt, but was WAITLISTED!!! And, honestly, it's not like I was applying to Ivies and Vandy was a backup. I was a total underachiever (undiagnosed ADD - which contributed to the incomplete application) at a "big 3" HS, but I had strong test scores.

Just goes to show how crazy the application process is.

Education is not synonymous with tests, scores, connections, siblings, financial donations, political influence, etc. You guys are loosing it completely. I am in this forum because I am doing a PhD on private education issues and you are such a good sample for my qualitative research.

When I was in college psych courses, I wrote a "research" paper based on reading articles in teeny-bopper magazines. When I was in graduate school, I took courses in research design and statistics. If I had then written "research" based on self-selected posters writing anonymously on an electronic bulletin board, even billing it as "qualitative", I would not have lasted long in the program.

Totally agree with you (Psych major). Using a self-selecting, 100% anonymous population for research is not valid. For all we know, nary a one of us actually has anything to do with DC independent schools, let alone any kids!

Everyone on this thread who is spending money on pre-k through 5th, while living in the boundary of a good NW school -- advice!!! Before you dole out the $$, go visit your neighborhood PS. You may be really pleasantly surprised. As for all the nonsense with the parent who was turned off and didn't apply in the end, later poster is correct -- they are the professionals in this case. I'm on private school blogs because my DC was taught in DCPS in a neighborhood school and ended up being offered 2 or 3 schools for MS this year. We feel we know much better now than we ever could have guessed at age 4 or 5 which private is best. Purpose of post: your cash is more useful WAY down the road!!!
