I heard the WCAC canceled all their seasons but the schools banded together and are playing independent of the league.

Not true

I heard the IAC is starting spring practices in early April and will have a league only schedule. Each school will play one another twice.

DC Schools can't play because of order halting HS sports until 3/17 and DJO decided to cancel winter sports. I think schools are doing what they can on an ad hoc basis. They are planning to play lax w/o championship, which seems silly given playoffs are like one week. But some schools will play even if the WCAC cancels league play.

Just so frustrating watching colleges play and the Super Bowl being played while high schools choose to keep our boys sidelined.

There is no official WCAC basketball or winter sports season. Some of the teams stayed together loosely and are competing at a league at the St. James. It is not even close to what a summer league would be.

Correction: our boys and girls are sidelined here while much of the country is back in school and playing sports with absolutely no difference in infections, deaths, teachers getting sick or any other metric being used against what this region has done.

So the consensus is we think spring for the boys in DC metro area will basically be a a wash then?

Public schools are all going to play in N VA

I am really tired of the “follow the science” crowd refusing to acknowledge that there is no difference in infection rates between the parts of the country that are on lockdown and those that are almost fully open, playing sports, attending school 5 days a week, etc. Where is the honest assessment from the political class of the damage this is doing to our kids?

Amen. This is so spot on. It's insanity. Our local leaders have completely failed to bring any type of thought to what they espouse. And you wonder why people in the middle of the country to shake their collective heads at the coastal elites...

Close to 80% of this forum voted for the people making these decisions. Now they are in it is impossible to root them out. School and sports not only won't return in full the rest of this year but be prepared for limited school in the fall and sports too. THE CHILDREN; PROTECT THE TEACHERS; EQUITY!!

The St. James is literally mocking this area's response to the school shutdowns. They just hosted an elite basketball tournament with teams from all over the country and did so without any pandemic repercussions. The rules were supposed to be no spectators but there were a lot of people in the gym. Don't be surprised if the public schools and some privates use this type of model to eliminate school funded sports moving forward. Why bother financially supporting sports and extra-curriculars when it can be done privately. Lacrosse could easily follow the same model in lieu of an official school season.

Well, there are larger infection rates in the population at large in states that have had the loosest regulations. But when it comes to looking specifically at schools that really follow good protocols - not a lot of transmission, and DC independents can exercise good protocols.

And as for sports, particularly OUTDOOR sports, at this point there just doesn't seem to be much evidence of transmission, period. So if schools can do some testing and such, the sports themselves shouldn't be disease vectors, and I hope to hell we get a spring season. I think an argument could be made that having sports would lessen the likelihood of the kids doing risky other social behaviors that would more likely contribute to the virus spread also, but that's intuition; no real data to back it up.

TL;DR: Private schools should be able to use campus to some extent and should be able to get some sports going.
