Omg.. Surgeons and high profile doctors are some of the biggest narcissists out there. That’s where the term “god complex” originated.

That’s the whole point with narcissists, though. The crazy-making/gas-lighting behavior. Grace’s character thought she was too savvy to fall for that (it’s much clearer in the book), but she really overlooked a whole lot of clues that everyone (her father, her best friend) could see. And I think until he was willing to throw their kid under the bus, she was willing to continue to overlook it.

I disliked Hugh Grant in the role, because it seemed way too dopey “I’m just a guy, standing in front of a jury, asking them to not convict me” ala Notting Hill and Four Weddings — and he’s about 25 years to old for that to be charming, but I can see now how that fits in with his character — although, I’m still not convinced he was the best choice.

Yeah, but it was the show itself, not Jonathan, that was dropping clues that made it seem like Grace could have been involved.

Why did Sutherland hire him a top dog attorney if he hated his SIL so much!?!?

It’s a story as old as time. Narcissist uses mistress for sex when she pushes for real commitment he bails...and in truly psycho cases will kill her to keep secret from getting out. As soon as the AP starts threatening or getting close to the guy’s family she’s history. The guy just wants a play thing, but doesn’t want to give up wife and kids. Mistress is never if the same social/intellectual standing as wife.

Elena was delusional. Unstable. Just as crazy as Jonathon.

I thought Elena was the most realistically written character. I knew a few “other woman” types when I was younger who fixated on the wife, tried to be more like her, tried to insinuate themselves in some way in her life, and were really miserable because they knew that the man in the middle would always prioritize and protect the wife.

I did NOT find Jonathan’s ultimate portrayal realistic at all. He found it so easy to casually bash Elena’s head against the wall. But Grace never saw this abusive side of him? They were married for 15+ years (and happily raising a son together), yet the psychologist didn’t realize that her husband was a socio and/or psychopath? Give me a break.

Yep. Classic OW. Ex-Husband’s AP stalked me on the Internet and knew all about me. She was of much lower intelligence/no career and incredibly manipulative. It’s when they start trying to push for legitimacy that it turns ugly.

Yeah, Hugh Grant should not have been cast. He's a magnificent actor but he can't play a man in his 40s. He looks like he's in his 60s. When Grace was testifying about how they graduated college in 2002 and then got married and have been married 14 years, I was like wtf, why did they cast people this old? They should have made the timeline a lot more believable because Grant in particular is just not able to credibly portray a man that much younger.

+1. I think psychopathy might actually help surgeons do what they do. (Psychopaths aren't necessarily out to hurt people.)

He was not convincing as a crazy, narcissist. The scene in the car with Henry was awful acting ...nothing like Jack Nicholson could do. Now that man can play crazy! Hugh was way too much of a bumbling English idiot to pull off a highly smart and cunning narcissistic personality. He didn’t even do the charm part well either. They needed somebody more like Nicole’s husband in Big Little Lie’s. Yummy Alexander Skarsgard.

Elena is the real baddie here. She destroyed his promising career in pediatric oncology. Who knows how many lives Hugh could have saved?

And now poor Sutherland will have to pay for kidman’s further face-tightening operations out of his pocket, at the expense of his own desperately-needed eyebrow trimming

Can anyone recommend similar shows on Netflix or prime?

Yes, please. Many other dramas are too intense these days, or too violent. This was interesting but I could sleep after watching it. Need more like this.

Was anyone else worried he was going to either drive right off the bridge, or pull the kid over the rail with him?

Yes, both. I thought he was going to take Henry down with him right until he paused when Grace was running towards them.

Kinda bummed it was the husband, just like it always is in life. If this was a dateline episode, I would have disregarded all the other red herring potential suspects. But because I expected a 'twist' I was looking for one.

What kind of dummy hides the murder weapon in a fire pit when there is an ocean right there to use for disposal?
