HBO The Undoing

Just finished. Meh. The direction wasn’t good—why so many close ups of Nicole Kidman’s eyeballs?! And flat, affectless face?

I also found the soundtrack ridiculous.

You must skip the prologue in a book too?

Nope I read those, because they actually contain relevant information, whereas the opening credits do not always have much more than some shots of the sky and crappy music.

I love opening credits - they can be very creative and have lovely music. All those episodes in, and I still watched the Game of Thrones opening credits every. single. time.

I could watch the Big Little Lies opening credits over and over again...the scenery was fabulous. It made me want to pack up and move.

Ugh, that opening was so awful...all the driving, and then the stupid line dance with the kids and adults. And that song! Who TF chose that?

Loved everything about the opening. Drove the same route last year in California - breathtaking. The music choice was excellent throughout the series.

Disagree. And I hated that kid who had such precocious musical tastes. Totally unbelievable.

I agree, I hated the opening of BLL.

I binged it this weekend and wanted to come back to this thread!

I LOVED IT though I agree there were a lot of plot holes and it's not believable - but I read a lot of mysteries and thrillers and that's just part of it.

I loved the way it was shot - but HBO is known for that. It made me want to move to NYC (only if I had money for that, what $10 million apartment? + a decent private).

Biggest plot holes that bothered me:

- Totally believe that NK could have a boy that age - actresses often play 5 years younger because actresses are aging better than most (even very wealthy) women (but agree that NK has had too much plastic surgery which is a shame). So I could accept NK as 5 years younger.

- Hugh Grant though, I had trouble believing he as younger than late 50s/60. And it would have been more realistic for him to snap earlier in life, like in his 40s.

- I didn't understand why Donald Sutherland went by the apartment. I don't think he would have cared that much. I get that it was there to throw us (I totally thought he did it for a while) but I think he just wanted Jonathan out of their life and he didn't strike me as the guy who would wander over to Harlem (I think that was where Elena lived?)

-It really bothered me that Grace wouldn't have contacted J's assistant when she couldn't find him at the conference! I get that she might have had to wait until the next morning because she likely would only have her email or a work number, but certainly he would have an assistant to book all that stuff for him.

- I also don't like that Stewart revealed he went crazy in the last few months. Why? It sounded like there signs from Stewart along so that was a good scene, but why did this woman unnerve him so much and more importantly why wasn't that probed more?

-Haley the lawyer NEVER would have had Grace take the stand knowing that the tape of her calling 911 exists. I'm not a lawyer but I believe the state would have no list that tape in their evidence right? So it woudn't have come as a surprise? Knowing that was there she would not have had her take the stand. That was the biggest hole in my book since Haley was such a badass lawyer.

But I really loved it.

I just finished (late to the party). My biggest issue with it was that I wish they had dropped more tidbits about the husbands megalomania earlier in the series. Either Hugh Grant didn’t play it up in his acting or the writing didn’t address it, but I felt like it just kind of got dropped in the last two eps, where before that he seemed like a pretty good guy outside of the infidelities. He did do a great job in the final scene. I think someone a little younger, like Jon Hamm, would have been better.

I really enjoyed it despite all. But the case, the setting, the clothes, the real estate, just great.

The cast, I love the cast. I thought Sutherland was terrific and really well-paired as father/daughter with Nicole Kidman.
