Because from page 1 people who claim to be associated with the movement have endorsed the list.

The movement is black people who want police not to suffocate them and their allies. It’s made up of all types of people, and yes that includes some who want you to shut up. The thing is, you should want police not to suffocate black people even if some of them hurt your feelings.

Yes! I want the police to stop murdering black people! I'm willing to help push for that, too. So when I show up to participate, and I get told to shut up, stand back, don't start chants, wait for instructions, I'm like, wait. Am I helping to stop the murder of black people? Or am I just participating in some creepy live action role play? I thought you wanted me to help, but now it sounds like you do NOT want my help, no matter how much I want to end police brutality.

Actually the Asian cop is reason he is dead. He blocked folks and the two white rookie cops from stopping the cop from putting the knee on his neck.

The two of them are the killers.

What is going on today is bringing out the worst in people. Look back at all the nasty posts, the finger pointing, the judging. The hypocrites, those claiming to be open minded but quick to criticize other viewpoints. I mentioned on another thread that racism and prejudice will never be completely eradicated. The fact that dcum is full of people who fight tooth and nail for what they think is right while criticizing and being rude to those with different ideals shows my point has some merit. A friend of mine was torn apart on social media because she mentioned, as part of a larger discussion, that she isn't discussing race with her 3 year old. One of her challengers is living in fear that her kids might be rezoned to a school with more minorities. This type of posturing is causing a ridiculous amount of distrust because many can see right through it.

Who’s an armchair racist here? Someone who says they aren’t going to “follow the direction of black people without question”? I’m not doing that for anyone unless they’re pointing a gun at me.

What wild shenanigans are you expecting to be asked to do?

There has been a lot of violence this week. Police violence. Protestor violence. There is also a global pandemic going on and social distancing guidelines in place. These are not absurd concerns.

It also doesn't say "listen to the official organizers.". It literally says any rando black person.

We're just responding to what was written. If people stopped defending it and just admitted it was overboard this thread would have died an early death.

+1. Any non black person who thinks these rules are reasonable is an idiot with zero common sense.

Exactly. We’re not discussing race with our 3 year old. Why? Because she goes to a majority-minority preschool. Her school sent a picture of her little class of 5 kids on a walk today. She’s the only white kid. She’s grinning from ear to ear, holding the hands of the POC kids next to her.

She can’t understand systemic racism as a 3 year old, but she spends her days in a diverse environment. Hopefully that will help form a foundation of acceptance, as a basis for conversations when she gets older about how to be an ally.

White woman here. 4 is worded poorly but the list is fine. It gets the point across. Last night at the protest I saw LOTS of white people starting chants. No one was mad/mean girly about it, but I think the fact that if one were told to stop and gets offended by it, that does demonstrate white fragility, as well as privilege. The fact that all of you are super offended by how the list offends YOU instead of trying to glean some helpful information also demonstrates your entitlement of always having to have your point heard (as a white person.)

Eh, it was worded in a nasty way, especially point 4. White people should be in listening and learning mode, but ultimately the fight to defeat systemic racism will fail if the movement can’t recruit allies from within the system (aka white people).

If the orgs of the 60s could understand this, so can the BLM movement today.

What if I identify as AA? Do I lead myself? Disobey my thoughts? I'm so confused.

And what if you’re biracial?

Do you silence one half of yourself?

Exactly. This sort of message is extremely alienating.

Oh my God white people. Black woman here. Come on! Even in these arguments you are centering everything on you!! Do you understand that in our workplaces and when we are out and about when white folks step into a space they can sometimes suck all of the air out of a room!!! We are not seen half the time - that is part of the reason this happened. You do all these mental gymnastics to create an argument to NOT support black people.

All we need you do to is just LISTEN! Stop making this about you and your feelings. If you don't want to be an ally on the streets stay home. There is plenty you can do FROM HOME support a black business, send money to an HBCU speak up when biases are at play in your office, if you are in a position of power review the salaries of people you are responsible for on your job by race/gender. Are there any inequities there? Why is that?

This movement will continue. There are plenty of white people that truly, truly get it. Just try LISTENING for a change.

That is some white baiting or some trolling list. My DS is with his friends, some white, some black, and none of these are a thing.
If anything due to my son's height and weight his black friend(plus serious naivete!) his taller black friends are more likely to protect him. Heck, that goes for his black friend who is shorter than DS! The shorter, skinnier kids are protected by their taller more muscular friends regardless of the color of their skin.
Join all tomorrow for a country wide protest!

None of us are saying we don’t support black people.

Just don’t tell us to “do what a black protestor tells you to do, no matter what it is.”

Allies are important. Recruiting them is important. That’s not the way to do it.

How dare you be concerned about your safety during a pandemic? That's so selfish!

Why don't you search for this language on FB. You'll find hits in racial justice groups, assuming you belong to them.
