I saw mismanagement and even theft of fundraising dollars as interlopers overthrew actual leaders demanding their voices be “centered.”

Now I just worry about myself and my family.

+1. Interesting insight from someone who has actually been there and isn’t just spouting crap from the comfort of their home.

Ugh I really hope I’m not adding fuel to a fire. I still completely believe in the mission. While I’m white my kids and sibling are not, and I still believe police abuse is one of the most pressing issues of our time. But there are definitely people in this space trying to capitalize on white guilt and act out their aggression.

+ 1000. You're absolutely correct. It's getting ridiculous.

We white women with children of color who are socially engaged probably all have stories of activists who are angry at our existence.

They are angry at you because they perceive that you "took away" a black man, rather than recognizing that you probably endure as much racism as a white person with a mixed race child as those who are black. Sadly, you're shunned by both groups.

I want to be clear that I and my family absolutely do not “endure as much racism” as an entirely black family. That’s an absurd and untrue claim.

But at the same time it’s absolutely the case that the movement has a toxic element that lashes out angrily at white moms of children of color however that came to be (adoption, stepmoms, bio moms of mixed race kids).

The movement, just like many other movements lately (women's movement for example), has a toxic element that will not accept you if you do not fully endorse all of their views/positions without question. And if you're white, that makes it even worse. The end result is that we can no longer agree to disagree or have disparate views under the same tent. So folks stay home.

Either you want support or you don’t. I’m not following a list of demands. No one at any of the protests i have attended have followed these rules and I live in LA. Stop posting stupid things on the internet!

LA person again- Pretty much every protest in my neighborhood has been planned and organized by white people because it’s all white people where I live. If we want to protest in support of BLM we can do that and don’t need rules to do so. We are out every day protesting here and no one needs your rules. Why make people feel bad about how they are supporting black people in the community?

Sorry, but white liberals will never have any credibility on this issue until they leave the suburbs, move back into cities, and send their children to school with black kids. Otherwise, they are just posers and hypocrites.

Yes, let’s encourage gentrification.

Or what? Let cities continue to be poor so that there is no property tax base to support schools and social programs?

There are many legitimate reasons to object to transracial adoption. To suggest that these objections are “toxic” and “angry” is just another take on the angry black woman trope.

OK, hun. I’m sure that Detroit and Baltimore would love some gentrification.

Protesting is great. But how about white folk making sure brown folk are in upper management positions. Make that more equal. It’s important.

Sure why don’t you step aside and give them yours first?

So then you just fold your tent and go home and take of your own? That's why we're in this situation in the first place.

Of course she folds her tent and takes it home! This very thread is replete with posts detailing how there is to be no criticism of the movement whatsoever.
