Maybe you also need to listen to people who have worked inside the movement for police brutality reform, who know that this list reflects real bullying that is going on. |
Yeah, I searched for it after seeing it here. It’s real. |
I know plenty of people directly involved in this movement. All I see here is a bunch of drivel about hurt feelings. You aren't committed then if you can't take a bit of straight talk. WTF do you think Black folks have been dealing with here. It's life or death, not a bunch of harsh talk. Bye!! |
| Already 28 K new cases today. I hope the protestors are happy when thousands more people get sick and die, we have to go into another quarantine all summer and the economy sinks into a Depression, and we have 50% unemployment. Thanks! Hope it was worth it! |
| Vienna VA protest. 400 white peoples and about two black families. The two black Dads were harangued into speaking by white organizer. Having exhausted the black options, a resident of Indian heritage took the stage. Whitest BLM protest, like ever. Thoughts? |
I will from the safety of my home! Good luck! |
| Saturday’s protests could actually change this country forever. A stunning rebuke to orange man. |
No one will be happy about this. But the protests are still important. |
You live in a very affluent white town. Why is this shocking? It sounds like the organizer didn’t plan well if speakers were not Pre arranged. Newbie stuff. |
The reality of the black pain from racism is not in doubt. Lots of movements have been hurt by poor leadership. This list of rules is just one of many examples of how certain corners of this movement are riddled with toxicity. And it has nothing do do with the worthiness of the cause. You can dismiss it as “hurt feelings,” but hurt feelings alienate contributing members of any organization. Can you imagine if a corporation said, yeah, lots of our employees have hurt feelings, but they need to get over it, because our mission is too important to worry about organizational heath. |
More important than millions of lives, including black lives, that will be affected by illness, death, poverty, unemployment, and homelessness? OK. |
So how would you feel if you showed up at a general rally for something and a white person gave you this list? How would you react? What if white person said if you don't follow these rules than you aren't committed and that you should stay home? |
Nothing will change unfortunately. Try harder. |
DP Don't be dense. These are not comparable situations. One is a protest against systematic racism and police violence against persons of color and the other "a general rally for something". A better comparison is if you are a man showing up at a woman's march and a woman gives you a list of similar rules. If you'd get butthurt about it, then, yes, you should stay home. |
NP. The list is about behavior at protests. It's not about telling white people not to help/show up. It's about letting black people lead the movement. |
