| Audi A6 is a $60,000-plus sedan. |

$2M net worth - we own a 2001 Honda and two pickups older than that. Paid cash and will drive them till they implode.
Why anyone spends money on a car I'll never understand. It's transportation, a depreciating asset and easily replaced by some dude with an Uber sticker in his window. |
At some point if you are commuting or have long distance drives, you need a reliable car. We drove ours till it no longer felt safe for me but I wasn't going far but my spouse with a 45-90 minute commute each way needs something reliable. You also probably aren't doing things like driving vacations, etc. |
Is that a typo? (1.5 million is a perfectly respectable net worth, but I don't think it's what the OP is talking about. 15? or 1.5 in annual income?) |
| Jennifer Dulos the wife of the wealthy builder in CT drove a black Suburban. I’m sure they had a ton of money and didn’t feel the need to drive flashy status cars. |
LOL. Suburbans are ridiculously flashy because they guzzle gas to no end and take up huge amounts of space on the road. Not the example I would give of a non-flashy car. |
I don’t think the folks here agree. |
I’ve heard that theory before, but I spend some time in my car for work and also for family vacations and I couldn’t imagine driving something not nice. |
The OP was talking about rich people driving old clunkers- not sure a Suburban qualifies |
From what I’ve read here rich people only drive BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Tesla, or Range Rover. Mostly less than 2 years old to maximize financial loss to depreciation. |
| New Suburbans are upwards of $75,000 and 80,000 fully loaded. And guzzle gas. And require a big house for parking. Very popular travel sports private school rich family car. Far from a “low key” or “cheap” clunker. |
I don't know, I see a lot of the larger full size SUVs being driven by rich housewives. These cars can be quite luxurious inside but is not attention catching on the outside. Only the in-crowd knows that they are expensive. They are much more low-key than a Range Rover or G Wagon. |
| One of the families at DD's school live in a $4.5M house, are worth about $80M and drive a 2016 Dodge Caravan. |
They have no other cars? There is no luxury minivan. For people who want the practicality of a van, their choices are fairly limited. |

2001 BMW
Similarly old Civic Both bought used, as a second owner, and paid for in cash. At the same time they own three houses, all bought pre-foreclosures, paid in cash. Richest family I know, and extremely tight. They only buy food for a few meals, in very small quantities, so there are no leftovers. |
