Seriously, whomever posted it is either stupid, evil or a foreign agent. |
Someone want to explain how we are winning under this scenario?
Trade war with China means US farmers don’t fell food. The IS government spends billions of dollars bailing them out. We are in a deficit, so all the money is borrowed— a lot of it from China. Which owns more of America and we have to pay them interest on the debt. Seriously— please explain to me how we “win” a trade war with a China when the trade war increases the debt and China holds the debt and makes a profit. Trumps plan seems very half assed. Unsurprising I guess. At any rate, this hurts, farmers, and manufacturers, and small business owners with a global supply chain in red states first and hardest. That’s the Republican base. The Information, professional, knowledge, tech and service sectors in blue areas get hit much less hard. If they are willing to endure the economic pain for a trade war that will, at best, be a draw because it is somehow MaGA, good for them. As long as my 401k stays strong, I don’t really care. Do you? |
BTW, there is a reason that, up until now, Republicans have hated tariffs— they hit the Republican base much harder than the Dem base. |
And the US is preparing a another $15B bailout for farmers.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/white-house-explores-new-farmer-bailout-plan-as-us-china-trade-war-heats-up/2019/05/14/a7ee018e-7641-11e9-bd25-c989555e7766_story.html?utm_term=.b024ef9b14e8 And the Senate Rs, not Ds, are the ones pissed about this trade war. On the bright side, China will loan us the money to pay the farmers. |
I thought Republicans were against welfare payments for workers and believed in self-reliance. I guess their hatred of the vulnerable only applies to people in urban areas. |
All of this has been addressed in this thread. It is discouraging that so many people like the above poster has such strong feelings one way or the other about the trade war, but is obviously rather ignorant on the topic of international trade, trade deficit, and how the US debt ties in to the subject. Raising tariffs hurts China more than it hurts the US - I am not talking about who pays for the tariffs, but the overall economic effect of raising tariffs on Chinese goods coming into the US. Also, US's actions shows China that the US will act to protect its interests rather than let China carry on stealing from the US without any worry. |
The farmers need to suck it up. No bailout. Not a single cent. They voted for this. They can be in the same boat with the rest of us— unhappy with Trump and told to suck it up until 2020. We are being told the solution isn’t impeachment. And that it isn’t Congressional checks on Trump or the Courts. It’s the 2020 election. And Trump has been anointed king until then. So the farmers can also wait until then for thing to get better. Just like the rest of us. There are a lot of people in this country being seriously harmed by Trump policies. If they are in blue states, Rs laugh about getting even and liberal heads exploding. Farmers are no more special than California wildfire victims or PR hurricane survivors or women who need safe abortions or... Farmers told us this would work long term and was work short term pain. So live with the short term pain. JFC— another $15B bailout? Nope. |
We may be acting, but we won’t win. The Chinese have more control over the people and production and a lower standard of living. And most importantly, don’t have an election next year. Trump caves. Often. See also the government shutdown, North Korea, Mexico will pay for the wall. The Republican can’t afford to have farmers and manufacturers going bankrupt and the stock market in a downturn in the runup to 2020. There is a date by which Trump will have to cave, or Rs will get killed in the next election. China knows this. I hope Trump keeps the tariffs on. It could well give Dems control of all three branches of government. |
Probably because your livelihood isn't on the line. |
+1 They made their beds, they should lie in it. Why should the rest of us pay for their choices.. right Trumpsters? No one should be made to pay for another's personal choice. |
Only when the takers are urban and with brown or black skin. Whites in the midwest? Back up the truck! |
What will the Trump Campaign do?

Whatever puts the most money in Trump’s pocket. Probably an exemption for red caps and political banners. MAGAtts do not care. |
You’ve been IN a trade war with China for the last 30 years and they have been kicking our a&& whether you realize it or not. Time to fight back. |
As long as we aren’t making America socialist by bailing out Trumpkins, I’m fine with it. See you at the polls in 2020. |
