How will Wootton or RM be affected by new high school in Crown Farm?

Oh Please. Last time in the 1990's people said same thing and well, they were wrong.

It is possible part of Wootton might be pulled to Crown, like Rio area, but that's it. Busing logistics will make it too cost inefficient to do much else. Not to mention Wootton is not over crowded. Either way what ever they do Wootton won't change much in terms of "Elite" status.

How will pulling some kids out of Wootton make it less elite. Unless they add Twinbrook which I don't think will happen.

Twinbrook won't be moved. If any school from that cluster moves from RM to Wootton, it's either Ritchie Park or Bayard Rustin.

It won't be RP though from a proximity perspective, that would make most sense (RP used to be zoned for Wootton), but they won't do it because RP FARMs rate is low. Rustin has a much higher FARMs rate.

Obviously no one knows how the zoning will work, but if they pull CG out of RM cluster into Crown, then that would alleviate a lot of the over crowding at RM. Why would they then move another ES out of RM?

They would also have to move CG entirely out of the RM cluster because JWMS is also getting over crowded (and they just expanded it a couple of years ago).

CG has the pyp program so also unlikely. If CG were moved it would likely be to GHS though

King Farm of CG will get moved to GHS, so the entire neighborhood and HOA will be at one cluster. I think the actual school will stay at RM. I believe the Rio area and all of Dufief will move to Crown. I think Twinbrook will get moved to Frost and Wootton. It is just as close to RM with less traffic on the pike. The buses only need to go down Wootton Parkway.

This is factually incorrect.

Twinbrook ES to Julius West MS - 3.1 miles
Twinbrook ES to RM HS - 2.0 miles
Twinbrook ES to Frost MS - 4.5 miles
Twinbrook ES to Wootton HS - 4.3 miles

Most of Twinbrook is in the walk zone distance to RM.

Also, I haven't noticed that MCPS or the Board of Education are interested in HOA boundaries as they relate to school boundaries, but maybe the King Farm Citizens Assembly will advocate for moving all of King Farm to the Gaithersburg cluster.

As a practical matter, very few Twinbrook-zoned students walk to RM. The roads were never designed for pedestrians to make that particular journey when everything was laid out 50 years ago. Big picture, moving Twinbrook to Wootton would not be logistically difficult, and it would do a lot to balance out demographics.

Yup. We should fix that.

No one in Twinbrook is walking to RM.

I too think Wootton is a strong possibility, but it butts to Walter Johnson and has a strong possibility of going there. I think Travilah will be moved to Northwest (I mean it is 10x closer to Northwest) and a section of Northwest will be going to Seneca or Gaithersburg. I do think Ritchie Park will be moved to Wootton though. Most of their neighborhoods (Fallsgrove/Horizon Hill) are much closer to Wootton. I think RM will expand their IB program to appease all of this movement all over the county. I think they will either get all of King Farm or GHS will get all of King Farm. If GHS gets all of King Farm or two schools leave, expect RM to pick up Maryvale or more of Derwood. I think Garrett Park will go to Wheaton and Kensington Parkwood to Einstein and Brookhaven to Rockville.

Still not sure how they will fix Whitman. They are surrounded by white rich neighborhoods. At least Churchill has Tobytown and Scotland.

It will never happen. The Pike is way too dangerous for any kids to cross, especially in the mornings when it is still dark out.

+1 I think TB moving to Wootton has some merit.

We will never prioritize the safety of kids walking to school over the convenience of people driving to work? Yeah, you're probably right, unfortunately.

Whose to say they won't have a local IB at Crown, too? Rockville HS has a local IB program.

RP won't be moved to Wootton even though, yes, it's closer. Remember, RP used to be zoned to Wootton about 30 years ago, and they moved it to RM for the income diversity. They are not going to pull it out of a HS cluster that may end up with a higher FARMs rate once King Farm and Fallsgrove are zoned for Crown. They would want to move a lower income area out of RM and into Wootton.

Fallsgrove won’t go to Crown. It is 2/3 of Ritchie Park students. The northwest side of Wootton will be shifted as the bus drive is too far anyway. Travilah to QO cluster. Dufief to Crown. That leaves Ritchie Park and Twinbrook going to Wootton. Remember, the plan is to even neighborhoods and FARMS. RM is overcrowded so having CG, Beall, Rustin, and then Maryvale keeps RM less in numbers, same FARMS and increases FARMS at Wootton. It decreases FARMS at QO. All of this minus 1.5 extra miles to Wootton, makes every other schools change closer. I do think King Farm will go to Gaithersburg, not Crown or RM.

i hope youre right. my plan in the near future is to buy a house that is currently zoned for RP and RM (horizon hills, potomac woods) and hope that it gets rezoned to Wootton for a huge boost in value.

Honestly when house hunting two years ago, Churchill and Whitman were only two HS that drove RE prices.

Wooton and Walter were next best but you got a discount and the rest were in value areas.

This wont matter, dont worry

The value won’t be so high if Twinbrook is there.
