How will Wootton or RM be affected by new high school in Crown Farm?

Wait when was Wootton ever considered elite? I always thought it was the school for kids who's parents couldn't afford Churchill or WJ but wouldn't stoop down to the DCC. Like the Asian Poolesville HS

If you go by test scores, Wootton is pretty elite. I may not be as rich as Churchill, but their test scores are up there.

Also, if you go by FARMs rate, WJ actually has more than Wootton.

I don't get Churchill. The homes all along Tuckerman and in those neighborhoods are old dumps with zero curb appeal.

Location, location, location.

Although actually I don't get the location thing either. I think that, in the future, there will be a lot of people who don't want what Potomac has to offer.

I think that will become an larger problem in the years to come. Bottom line is people aren't as keen on the outer burbs these days as they were back in the 70s and 80s. Most young people prefer to live closer in.

Tuckerman area is closer in than outer Rockville near North Potomac where Wootton is located. It's cheaper than inside the beltway (for the same lot/house size) but closer than Wootton cluster.

I don't live in either of those clusters.

They may all prefer it, but let's be realistic - many won't be able to afford to live close in. I certainly can't. I would've loved to live close in but our budget didn't allow it. We wanted good schools and couldn't afford Bethesda, and that's how we ended up in the "cheap" part of Potomac in an "old dump with zero curb appeal".

Possibly but there are close-in neighborhoods that are less expensive than Chevy Chase.

It wasn't your budget that didn't allow it, it was your preference for "good schools."

The CIP states the schools that will be affected. They could potentially put in a magnet also, like they are at SVHS, but the main school will relieve specific schools of overcrowding.

Oh Please. Last time in the 1990's people said same thing and well, they were wrong.

It is possible part of Wootton might be pulled to Crown, like Rio area, but that's it. Busing logistics will make it too cost inefficient to do much else. Not to mention Wootton is not over crowded. Either way what ever they do Wootton won't change much in terms of "Elite" status.

This isn't all that complicated. The same kids will do exactly the same regardless of which school they end up at.

How will pulling some kids out of Wootton make it less elite. Unless they add Twinbrook which I don't think will happen.

Twinbrook won't be moved. If any school from that cluster moves from RM to Wootton, it's either Ritchie Park or Bayard Rustin.

Rustin wouldn't make any sense. RM itself is within the Rustin service area.

It won't be RP though from a proximity perspective, that would make most sense (RP used to be zoned for Wootton), but they won't do it because RP FARMs rate is low. Rustin has a much higher FARMs rate.

Obviously no one knows how the zoning will work, but if they pull CG out of RM cluster into Crown, then that would alleviate a lot of the over crowding at RM. Why would they then move another ES out of RM?

They would also have to move CG entirely out of the RM cluster because JWMS is also getting over crowded (and they just expanded it a couple of years ago).

CG has the pyp program so also unlikely. If CG were moved it would likely be to GHS though
