I am also worried about how exactly I would explain the situation to our kids, who are both boys. I'm not sure what decision I will make in the end.

How old are your boys? I recently had a breast augmentation and didn't tell my boys anything other than that I had surgery and they needed to be gentle for awhile while hugging me and do some extra chores around the house since I couldn't lift anything above ten pounds. They have no idea. They also don't know Dad got a vasectomy, they just know he had a surgery and sat on the couch watching tv for a couple days. Boys are surprisingly oblivious.

Why the need to explain anything to children? This is grown up business.

Well, I think in this case it's probably necessary to tell them no we can't go to Universal Studios this year because mommy needs her tits done.

See we all have different priorities, I think spending money for a stupid vacation (universal studio is in my opinion a stupid and expensive place to bring kids), it’s a waste. Take them for an adventure or to another country. Better spending money on a boob job than taking kids to amusement parks.

You overestimate the need to involve children in this. No explanation is necessary.

Not everyone has a hard time coming with 8k. That's how much we net in a week. I'm not gonna get a boob job, but seriously, get real. Secondly, an amusement park, really? I could find ANY reason not to go to universal such as we can't go to universal because mommy needs to wash her hair.

They'll wonder where Mom went and why Dad is picking them up from school ?

Hi...the 1950s are calling, they want you back.

They're 9 and 11. So old enough to ask questions. I just don't want them to be concerned if I give them some general line about having surgery .... I don't want them to think I'm seriously ill.

As for the universal studios comment, they've been like four times already and their grandparents generally take them on a fun vacation over spring break (this year to a resort in Mexico) so it's not like they'll miss out on having a vacation. DH just thinks the money would be better put towards an additional vacation with the 4 of us.

OP, can you cut something else? Restaurants, wine, manicure, hair dresser? I still think you should do it, but perhaps explain to your DH how you need this. Loving our bodies and liking what we see in the mirror is so important. Family vacations are great and important too, but it’s not like spending $8000 means you will never be able to go on a vacation again

Really ? In the 2000's children never see their parents and won't wonder where one of them is ?

I'm the poster with the boys and one of mine is about to turn 9. He honesty didn't ask too many questions, it's your 11 year old who may ask questions.

But personally I'm ok with telling kids that some things are private but that I'm doing fine, the surgery is a minor one, and you don't have to worry. Those are the thing kids need to hear - not exactly what was done. I mean if I had a hysterectomy or an ectopic pregnancy, I wouldn't go into that in a detailed way with my boys either.

I'm in NYC and it's actually a known thing here that breast lifts and augmentations are frequently scheduled during the summer when kids are away at sleep away camp!

Yep, and the 50’s want their low divorce rates back too. But hey, wouldn’t want you “bored” in your marriage now would we?

I wish that were an option - my kids have never wanted to go!

Um, no. Sometimes their dad picks them up from school sometimes I do. They never "wonder " why. It's what modern families do.

This is the least of your problems. Do it OP!

What if you get it done and you still feel unattractive? I'd worry that it's like home improvement: the new area looks great but it makes you see flaws in the surrounding area.
