Sorry, she's so clearly not black.

Sorry she was so clearly not qualified.

She wasn't perfect, but she cleaned out the stables at DCPS. And the old line DC 'community' and the WTU never forgave her for it. Now we have Ant-Wan.

And schools that continue to perform poorly on tests...Abandoned schools...an terribly flawed IMPACT..a revolving door of educators--->even more instability and disruption to the teaching and learning of kids who need stability more than anyone.

Bring back Rhee, for all her flaws. At least she got a lot done and wasn't afraid to take steps to better serve high SES families. I'm not remotely optimistic about this guy.

Before Rhee, many DCPS schools didn't even have enough textbooks .... or even toilet paper in the rest rooms. Custodians wouldn't shovel snow, because it wasn't in their job description. And many old line DC principals and teachers viewed DCPS as secure, lifetime employment regardless of performance.

Oakland, Calif. is a crappy, dysfunctional school system. Why would DCPS hire someone who ran that?!

- Because the Broads told DCPS to hire him. I cannot believe that there are people on this thread who still support Rhee. She had no credentials, no plan of ongoing professional development for teachers and school administrators. She eliminated the content specialist positions, and her Five-Year Plan mirrored the Plan developed by Janey, reminding one of Melania Trump's plagiarized speech.

Many DCPS parents have such low expectations. If Rhee were such a great school leader, why haven't reputable school systems been clamoring to hire her, or to emulate her tactics?

They had completely different issues like major fights about Charter schools. He was in Denver b/f that. You will have to wait and see. I worked with Rhee. Came out of investment banking so b/f you assume that I was some union teacher, I will cut you off at the pass. Rhee sucked. She was a bully and just followed Janey. Don't get sucked in.

It's all relative. Right, Rhee wasn't great, but she got the ball rolling on modernizing a great many criminally decrepit school buildings, and hired the people to sort out no end of logistical issues. I remember how kids would often turn up to school pre Rhee with no teacher assignment and no textbooks. I don't hear or read complaints along those lines anymore. Credentials seldom amount to much in DC on the ed reform front. Rhee wasn't as interested in kowtowing to vested interests as Henderson was.

It's important apparently that the chancellor look like DC.

Diamond-shaped with a bite taken out?

Wouldn't it be great if DCPS's problems could be solved by appearances?

What is apparent is that there is anti-white discrimination going on.

Well, Jennie Niles and Katherine Bradley will continue to run the show. I think they are both white?

As always, if a white person isn't chosen, then it's discrimination. i guess every vacancy should be filled with white people, because they're the most qualified.

This is the dumbest comment I've read all day.

I was living here when Michelle Rhee was named DC schools chancellor. The anti-Asian prejudice, some of it expressed out loud by DC politicians, was shocking.
