That's clear cultural appropriation, and a conscious spelling crime committed by A's parents. |
Someone should notify the French Ministry of Culture. |
Apparently so. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Antwan |
Does it bother you when white parents name their boys Jahn instead of John? What about Alix or Alyx instead of Alex? You must have really flipped your wig when Prince changed his name to a glyph. |
Right. Or Eleese, Nichole, Charliegh, Carleigh ....I could go on and on and on. You people are sick and really deserve to nothing but the worst. |
| I think the comment about cultural appropriation was a joke, echoing accusations of cultural appropriation for things like dreadlocks. |
Or when some idiotic parents actually named their daughter Clitoreece.

| Ant-wan makes me wish that we had Michelle Rhee back! |
Yup
Amazing some Antwans don't get it... |
Sorry, she's so clearly not black. |
There was a ton of resentment at the time that Rhee was an Asian-American, not someone who "looked like DC." |
You need an EdD. in Ebonics. |
Sorry she was so clearly not qualified. |
She wasn't perfect, but she cleaned out the stables at DCPS. And the old line DC 'community' and the WTU never forgave her for it. Now we have Ant-Wan. |
I don't understand this unspoken (and sometimes explicitly spoken) notion that the DC schools chancellor should be black. DC's "Chocolate City" days are gone, and even if they weren't, the position that the largest racial group needs to be "represented" in the top job is, well, offensive. It's as if people said that because whites are the largest racial group in the U.S., the president and the secretary of state should never be other than white. It's true that there are some people who may believe that, and they're called bigots and racists. The principle should be no different with the Washington, DC government. It seems that most people want to hire the most talented, most accomplished leader for the job, not the one who's the "right" color. And it's not as if the Oakland, CA schools are anyone's model of a good, successful school system. |
