This came across my timeline. Personally, I am underwhelmed. No advanced degrees yet he was offered $400K by OUSD ANOTHER struggling school district. WTH

Here is the link to his $400K salary. http://www.eastbaytimes.com/2016/11/15/oakland-unified-superintendents-400000-pay-package-highest-in-bay-areas-k-12-public-sector/ |

On a cursory google, I like that he's worked in a mixed charter-public environment and has at least some neutrality/leans positive towards charters.
I do not like this alleged culture of patronage: https://classroomstruggle.org/2015/02/11/antwan-wilsons-idea-of-cutting-administration-pad-the-top-chop-from-the-bottom/ |
There is no neutrality. There is an agenda...the article below shows why he was selected. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/05/education/oakland-district-at-heart-of-drive-to-transform-urban-schools.html |
Your focus on his education shows why so many think there are so many elitist snobs in DC. I couldn't care less about where he went to school nor do I care about advanced degrees. His experience is more telling to me. I'm sorry you're riddled with post-grad debt on your $80k salary, that doesn't mean any position of power should mandate a PhD. |
| You guys will complain about anyone and anything. Would you prefer Davis? |
His success is mediocre at best. As an education leader I would expect him to have invested in his own education. Call it elitist or call it what it is.

Maybe. This is just another Kaya. She might as well had stayed. Overpaid and under qualified. It's the DC way! |
There's always the burbs! |
This is interesting, "Since he arrived, Mr. Wilson has focused on sending more tax dollars away from the central office and directly to schools, and he negotiated a contract giving teachers a 14 percent raise, their largest in 15 years, although Oakland teachers are still paid less on average than educators in surrounding counties. Mr. Wilson is also overhauling five of the city’s most troubled campuses, moving principals and introducing new academic and enrichment programs. He is working with both district schools and charter leaders to negotiate an agreement to meet the same standards for academics, discipline and enrollment criteria." I find it funny that his opponents criticize him for advocating for a common application system like our MySchool when it was so well received here. |
Which is another reason I think he opted to take this position. Oakland is going to fight him. The city is full of activists. DC is full of passive carpetbaggers and the long time residents are not really stakeholders so anything goes.

OP didn't mention anything about his success or lack there of. Only mentioned his lack of advanced education. |
His success is questionable. He was only with OUSD for about a year. How is his success being measured in that amount of time?
|
Doesn't matter to me as the quoted information from the article is enlined with what we face here. |
Where does it say he has no advanced degrees? |
