I can not believe people think women look better in shorts than capri pants. Shorts look hideous on 90% of women over age 30 (the remaining 10% look gorgeous in anything). They draw attention to your fat thighs. Whever I see a women with thin thighs, I die of envy. I think: here is a woman who can wear something that ends above her knee. But I also suspect men prefer thighs with a bit more padding.
I also can not believe some women think long pants are just as cool as capris. It must be some poster from Canada, because any DC woman would know that every inch of flesh exposed to the cooling air helps. The question is just how much can you expose without grossing out everybody around you or turning all the men around you into putty. |
| I find capri's awkward on anyone over five.. short girls look dumpy. tall girls look like they have cut in two. I work with two women who wear clam diggers teaching, at a college... and they are both close to sixty...how cute!! ( not) |

It is that time of year again - time for this thread's annual revival!
Capri pants look terrible on everyone except people who look good wearing anything. I am tall, thin and have long legs and I don't wear capri pants because they would look bad on me. Also, capri pants should not be confused with well tailored ankle pants. |
+1. Capri pants that end mid-calf make you look short and dumpy. |
Again, back to 16:19. Capri pants are better than shorts on most women. Well-tailored ankle pants aren't necessarily appropriate for activities where you might want to dip your feet in water or where you are walking in grass and/or mud (like at a park). but we get it, a bunch of people hate that women wear capri pants. I wish many people (men and women) would wear capri pants instead of shorts. but guess what, people wear what they want. I hate skinny jeans. I think everyone looks bad (and uncomfortable) in them. I also hate skinny ankle pants. I think they look weird on most people; they make their feet and hips look really big. |
news flash: some people are short and not thin. ankle pants don't necessarily look better on them. So, hey, why not let them just be comfortable in peace? |
No, they are not better than shorts on most women. Many, many older women of various ages and weights look very nice in a pair of knee length shorts that aren't tight. They are no more inappropriate than a skirt. Capris, cut the calf in half, and make your calves look fat and your legs look dumpy. If you won't wear shorts and you can't wear ankle pants, just wear very light weight khakis and a very summery top and cute sandals. |

Let me try that a second time: Or a long flow-y skirt. Anything is better than capris. |
I don't wear capris to work or to proper events, but for going to the park, doing outdoorsy things, walking the dogs, capris are more appropriate than khakis b/c I get mud and dirt on the bottoms of the khakis. so I wear capris. I roll up the bottoms, so they come right below my knees. I think knee length shorts look dumpier than capris. capris either cut to hit right above the calf or rolled up to hit right above the calf actually look WAY better on me and many women I know than knee-length shorts. But you're entitled to your opinion. I still get to wear what you want. And yes, my husband still finds me attractive. In fact, I told him about the DCUM obsession with capris and he thought it was ridiculous. He said men don't care what other men wear, whether they look "dumpy" or short or whatever. He doesn't understand why some women are so obsessed with other women wearing capris. It's not like they're wearing anything revealing or scandalous or with rolls of skin hanging out. |
| correction: I still get to wear what I want. |
I love skirts, but when I'm going out for a day of walking around the park, walking the dogs, gardening, et cetera, I don't need long flowing skirts getting in the way. |
| Confession: I am 29 years old, short, not thin, and I like my capris. Mine are slim cut and hit right under the knee, not the type that are at mid-calf. They go well with a lot of long, flowy cotton blouses that I own. For whatever reason, skirts that hit right below the knee seem most flattering on me as well. Baggy capris and most shorts make me look shorter and chubbier. |
| A sure sign of spring: the Middle Aged Women in Capri Pants thread is revived! |
