GT/AAP Decisions: JUST THE SCORES, PLEASE!

NNAT and Cogat are to create a pool. And then GBRS is the real key to AAP. Kids will not get into AAP if GBRS is lessthan 12. So basically teachers will decide who will get in and who will not.

So are you saying pool kids are in as long as they have a strong GBRS?

I'm wondering on average how many kids actually get into the pool...

The pool, or aap? About 15 % of the children are admitted to aap. About half that apply are admitted.

Not true. The average gbrs for in pool is 12, which means some will be less than 12

15% of what children? In the pool or out of all 2nd graders? I was asking about how many kids are in the pool on average because someone stated pool kids get into AAP as long as they have GBRS over 12.

Where did you get this information regarding the average GBRS for in pool? Are all in pool kids admitted as long as they have over 12?

So GBRS is the Key.

GBRS is not the key, as someone who received an 8 in my school was accepted.

Not true, my DD got a 7 (COGAT 114/NGAT 108)--was accepted on parent referral including several privately adminstered tests (i.e., WISC, Stanford Binet).

right, GBRS is not the key. How hard the parent wants to push is the key. This just proves it.

I think GBRS is the supporting factor for high or low COGAT and NNAT though. WISC sort of overrides everything. For example, without WISC, a student with those scores and GBRS would have a much lower chance of getting in. Just saying

what an eye-opener this thread is!
Kids with CogAts of 114 and GBRS of 7 get accepted. Real elite.
Explains alot about my DC's so called GT class.

Absolutely. You should do private so you and your progeny can escape The Great Unwashed.

they're not unwashed. They just bombed the CogAT and the teachers/school officials deemed them below average in giftedness.
But their prents won't take no for an answer so they get in. So manay stories like this it really haas become AAP-lite these days.

And there was additional testing. My DD gets anxious before tests and does not test well (~120). But she had high GBRS (14).

A high WISC beats COGAT any day of the week. And the admission guideline is potential giftedness.
