You misunderstand completely. No one likes ATVs or to see a child hurt. But the reality is that there are enough other quality of life issues to address in DC first. I’m not interested in picking on something that’s unique to Black and brown kids when there are a million other things we could deal with first.

The vast majority of crime related quality of life issues in DC are “unique to black and brown kids” (and adults). This isn’t racist, this is just the reality of urban areas with historically large black populations, and essentially zero lower class white populations. If you went to a trailer park area in Appalachia most crime would be unique to white people.

So your point about “picking on something unique to black and brown kids” is just silly and seems unfairly aimed at mischaracterizing the intent of the people complaining about this issue. If you looked at the data of carjacking perpetrators in DC you would find that they are 95%+ black (feel free to correct me if I am wrong) — if law enforcement in DC goes after armed carjackers and arrest data comes back as essentially all black perpetrators, does that count as “picking on” brown and black kids? Pure foolishness.

You can very easily chase these dipshits with drones. Even cheap law enforcement drones have the ability to hone in on a target (car/bike) and follow it 'home'.

Then what? Does the drone arrest them? Because police won’t.

It writes them a strongly worded ticket!

How many of these knucklehead ATV riders are there? It is probably like 50-100 people. And I'm guessing they all have rap sheets a mile long, plus tons of camera tickets from their cars. It's not like these are productive members of society and only have this one illegal hobby. Not sure why we want to protect these people from prosecution.

Because there are so few! The culture is endangered. We need a city program to help preserve it.

Tell me you live in an area of DC unaffected by ATVers without telling me . . . anyone who lives east of Rock Creek Park, and especially in Ward 1 (U Street) and Ward 4 (Georgia Avenue) thinks that the PITA, dangerous, anti-social, inconsiderate, obnoxious and arrogant ATVers ARE a quality of life issue worth addressing. It was a black kid who was critically injured by these jerks.

Black on black crime doesn’t get any attention. If a white person had been driving the ATV that struck the boy, people would be more interested.

No one cares about black on black crime. Not black churches. Not black politicians. And certainly not white progressives in Bethesda and Arlington. All of them will champion violent men. But never a word about their victims. Progressives are blinded by ideology and can't see a damn thing these days.

Please give examples.

Pipe down MAGA.

Seriously where are the mayoral candidates on this? If this child, who has bleeding in the brain and a spinal injury, had been hit by a car, they'd be up in arms.

It's also strange how silent the car haters/WABA crowd is. These kids were on bikes, in a bike lane when they were run over.

It's simple. The perpetrator was of the wrong demographic for the WABA/DSA types to care about it.

I think this is directionally correct but you're missing a key component. That demographic is able to rouse the WABA/DSA types to action when their negligence and willful disregard for the law manifests when they're behind the wheel of a car.

I think they're unable to this time around because of the importance of dirtbikes and ATVs to the, uh, "culture" of a that certain segment of DC residents. Anything pertaining to the "culture" of longtime residents is a third rail for them that they dare not touch, lest they expose themselves to accusations of colonization and gentrification.

There's a segment of white liberals who are afraid to criticize someone who is black for anything at all, including running over children with illegal ATVs. They tend to support Janeese Lewis George who opposes anything that results in a police officer arresting someone who happens to be black, regardless of what they did. That's why they're all silent about this completely horrendous incident.

I live in a neighborhood where they wrecklessly drive up and down streets, wrong ways down the street and through a field where people play and hangout all summer long. I recognize the same kids riding every time. It’s dangerous and ridiculous. And lots of kids of all races use these spaces.

I can see you don't spend time in any of those circles.

Is anyone taking pictures of them? Or video?
