Absolutely tragic.

“One of the witnesses…saw the boy go flying. When she went over, he was bleeding from his head and his teeth were all missing and arms behind his back. His friends were around him, crying and completely traumatized”

Honestly, I would think a whole lot more of the performative National Guard stunt by the White House if they would partner with MPD and do a surprise raid on all illegal ATVers, sweep up every single one of those illegal machines, and dump the ATVs and motorbikes into a gigantic metalcrusher on the spot. THAT would get the message across faster than anything. I'm just surprised this situation hasn't happened more often. So sick of the excuses our progressive city council people have made about this issue. Would love to hear what Janeese "all a criminal needs is a hug" thinks about this.

Blame this on our stupid government. People have been asking that they do something about the ATVS for years. They've done nothing.

janeese would say that teenagers illegally riding atvs on city streets is a culture that we must respect

Can they sue the government instead? At this point they've basically endorsed ATVs.

I feel for this child and their family. A relative of mine was hit by a driver who fled. My relative suffered traumatic brain injury- his life and the lives of his family were changed forever, but the driver of the car who did this was never found, never charged, never took any responsibility for what he had done. It is sickening when someone does this.

+1. Anyone have a connection in the White House? This is a brilliant idea.

The ATVers generally live in PG County. They don't have license plates and wear helmets so can't be identified. if police give chase, it is more likely to cause crashes and more destruction and injury. What exactly do you all propose?

Pass a law making it illegal to own an ATV. Then confiscate all ATVs still in the county after the law takes effect.

Is it really that hard? Follow them in unmarked police cars or with drones. When they stop to get gas or when they go home, arrest them and destroy their ATVs. Chances are, they're poor and won't be able to buy another ATV for awhile. You could also pay the public to identify them.

This. Don't make it illegal to own one, but make it illegal to ride it down a public street and subject to immediate confiscation if it is. Then bring on the mobile metal crushers.

This is wildly illegal.

Terribly sad for all involved. I hope both the child and the driver find healing.
