Trump is a felon and he's still sitting in the White House. Why should anyone be afraid of committing a felony? |
|
LOL. Trump will just get the courts to say that violating the ADA is NOT a felony. |
|
+million. Fine. Fire us all. See how well the govt runs then. Grants will dry up. Services will shut down in communities. And when they sign a short term cr who will run all the programs funded if they fire half the govt? I seriously hate these people. They treat us with such disdain. Fire everyone and run the government yourself then you POS. |
|
Because there is one set of laws that applies to him and his cronies, and another set that applies to everyone else. |
| The Dems had better not cave to these bullies. |
|
Could this just be a move to scare Dems into the CR and to encourage more Feds to retire or look for other work? Not sure what would stop the WH from RIFing feds even if there is a CR and they’re still working. Maybe I’m missing why it would be easier during a shutdown. |
| For those of you cheering on a shutdown - just f-ing stop. Some of us have disabled family members dependent on our incomes and health insurance. I cannot afford to get RIF'ed, even if it is just a bargaining tactic. Show some humanity and stop the political posturing. https://punchbowl.news/file_8690/ |

This is quite possibly the dumbest memo I’ve ever read. So fire people for all programs that rely on discretionary funding and are not aligned with POTUS’s priorities and then retain the minimum number of ppl to carry out statutory functions if/when we are funded? Maybe this will finally make Congress wake up bc programs that both D and R rely on for their constituents will cease to exist after we RIF all the ppl who administer them. You can’t have a govt limping along on fumes and deliver to your districts. And btw, Trump and friends tried to obliterate HHS’s budget for example and R’s rejected those cuts and signaled they’ll be funding those programs next FY. And they’re just going to cede power to Vought?? Okay then-fire millions and millions of Feds. I’d love to see it happen. |
| Are you seriously willing to call this administration’s bluff? Because I am not. This gives Vought/P2025 the excuse to do what he really wants to do - and a shutdown would be especially stupid because the proposal on the table is a clean CR |
| I think Dems should just cave and let the Obamacare subsidies lapse. When that bites people's pocketbooks, they might come to their senses and vote the Rs out. They should be strategic and only let Fetterman and six other Senators who are not up in 2026 vote for the CR. Of course, if 1 million Feds are RIF'd as Vought is threatening, the unemployment numbers will be quite stark (yes, it is only 0.5% of the total workforce, but all at once is a jolt) |
| It will get resolved in the 11th hour like always. |
| It's time to stop giving in to Vought's terrorist threats. |
|
 100% agree with this |

RIFs wouldn't be easier during a shutdown, this is a threat to try to get Dems to play ball. The WH could RIF people whenever. Which makes it seem less likely they would actually follow through on the threat, since if they wanted it done it would be done already, but who knows. Vought is a burn-it-all-down idealogue. Most of the elected Rs and appointed agency heads are not in step with him, but it comes down to who has the president's ear on any given day. As an aside, you know what would make me look for other work is if they would stop ruining the private sector economy as well. |

The firing of millions of Feds will backfire bigly and more so than letting the subsidies lapse. This is schumer’s shutdown showdown that he chickened out on in March. Call them on their bluff and make Vought look like the evil idiot that he is. |
