Of course, if 1 million Feds are RIF'd as Vought is threatening, the unemployment numbers will be quite stark (yes, it is only 0.5% of the total workforce, but all at once is a jolt)

The firing of millions of Feds will backfire bigly and more so than letting the subsidies lapse. This is schumer’s shutdown showdown that he chickened out on in March. Call them on their bluff and make Vought look like the evil idiot that he is.

But what's the D's endgame? Obamacare subsidies are not a sexy talking point, against parks being closed or whatever else. Feds being fired is old news and the most visible roles (like ATC) are exempt. Ds will lose the messaging war on a shutdown now.

They should have done a lot of things in March, but now it's too late.

Give Trump a chance. He’s trying to fix the mess caused by Democrats during the last administration. Yes, we will feel pain, but like they say, no pain, no gain.

I think you mean the administration before the last administration.

Don't give in to the bullies.

Could this just be a move to scare Dems into the CR and to encourage more Feds to retire or look for other work? Not sure what would stop the WH from RIFing feds even if there is a CR and they’re still working. Maybe I’m missing why it would be easier during a shutdown.

It wouldn't be. You can't run the RIF process during a shutdown.

Yes, call it. 100%. Worst case, I'll take my severance.

As if this administration has been following the proper process for RIFs.

Yes - we have to be willing to call their bluff. They’re having to re-hire many workers because they’ve already allowed too many to leave. If the Rs torch the rest of the government as a political stunt/negotiating tool, it will backfire and they will have to re-hire everyone. In the meantime, public sentiment will turn sharply negative. They know they have limited time for all of their shock and awe and are counting on the Ds to cave. If the Ds give in now, the bullies will just demand more and more.

When they fire everyone and officially turn us into a third world country then maybe people like Vought will finally be held accountable. Sorry but laying off hundreds of thousands of US citizens and then increasing h1bs for the tech sector isn't going to go over well.

But, but, but...did TACO not cancel the H1B visas already? Why is he such a ding-dong? Can he not decide what to do? I thought H1B visas have been made super expensive, and the fed workers have been DOGGY Dodged?

Anyways. Sorry to people who will lose health insurance etc. It is a sad time for this whole country. What an astounding fall for USA. Never thought that in a few months it would become such a shithole facist country. Democracy has been wiped out.

Which programs that don’t align with the administration’s “priorities” are even left? They already RIFed everyone.

+10. They will just send out an email to your work account you are not allowed to access during a shut down. Down the road you might hear you can go to the office for 15 minutes to turn in you badge and grab your plant and mug.
