I know roughly who in my office is and isn't essential, and there's at least one entire department that would be furloughed. However, if the President tells our Cabinet Secretary that he wants everyone to work, Antideficiency Act be damned, I think that everyone will be ordered to show up to work.

No way would I show up to work if I’m not deemed essential. I’m not risking violating the law. I would imagine that illegal order immediately would make it to the courts and lose.

Knowing violation of the ADA is a felony. That is why I think they'll have to close the national parks this time, because GAO did a whole report on the fact that keeping them open last time was an ADA violation.

Part of me thinks the administration will just declare everything excepted as an F-you to the Democrats. There's no way to challenge it.

Who’s going to prosecute them?

My agency is apparently planning RIFs in mid-October, so on the selfish front, sure, shut it down, delay the hammer falling.

We have savings and I’d be ok with the sacrifice if I thought it would accomplish anything. But I think with the current administration in charge this will just spiral into more chaos.

Also I am just so tired of being a political pawn. I’m too close to retirement (but not VERA eligible) to start over in something new, but if I had to do it all over again I would avoid working for the government like the plague.

I’m acting as an executive because mine took the DRP, not getting paid any extra to do it, and will have to work because the executive is the only employee in my office excepted. To say I’m bitter at this turn of events is a massive understatement.

Give yourself 59 minutes every day.

Politico reporting agencies are instructed to implement RIFs during a shutdown. Does this lower the odds of a shutdown because now D’s will cave?

Exactly. We've got to wrap our head around the fact that there is no adult in the room. There is no safety net. What we thought was America was just a mirage held together by good will and fair play. That's all done now.

They might be doing mass firings if there is a shutdown. What a mess:

Why would it lose? Pretty sure the courts will take Trump's side.

I want this to happen, and both my DH and I are feds. I am so sick of Trump thinking this is a game. Let him fire everyone. I am very sure we will all be brought back like they are doing to GSA right now because they won't be able to find people to do the work he actually needs to get done.

+1. I want Voight to do all the work of all the fired feds himself. He seems to have plenty of time on his hands to write asinine memos. How about he gets some real work to do.

They absolutely will not shut down national parks. If there’s one person thing that riled my MAGA in-laws up, it’s that parks shut down. They’re convinced no one needs to oversee visitors in the outdoor parts of parks. They’ll cut everything to keep parks open. What happened in Joshua Tree last time was disgusting visitor behavior.
