They used to do on the day off, but again they used to call snow days on the day off,. but parents now are so insane that they have to call them the day before, so I think if we do have a early release it will be the day before. I am praying to all the Gods that we have school tomorrow and Friday. I have to go to the office now, FCPS doesn't understand that they are making us go in the office now.

Good choice going with a letter- when they receive it 3-5 days from now it’ll really have some impact on their decision-making.

It probably won’t even make it to them with the snow - mail won’t be able to deliver on time.

Your 7th grader totally misinterpreted. I guarantee you the phrasing was, "My best guess is we'll hear around 6 pm that school is canceled tomorrow. If that's the case tomorrow's quiz will be pushed to next block..." or whatever. I said similar to all my classes today. "I think we will be in class tomorrow, but if we're not here's the contingency." If I don't say things like that, they'll convince themselves the assignments that were due Tuesday/Wednesday no longer count for anything and will be furious when I try to collect them on Thursday/Friday.

Teachers know nothing. We learn the plan approximately 5 minutes before the message goes out the community (if that, often we learn at the same time)
