He didn't have the mental capacity to choose. He ran because Dems wanted him to, as a way of shutting out Harris from the nomination. Now that the primaries are over, he is no longer useful to Dems and he's being told to step down to make way for their preferred nominee.

+1 I can see why foreign leaders are cautious when dealing with him. My FIL is 81 years old and a lifelong democrat. He can’t stand republicans.
