EXACTLY. |
My POC teen has a diverse group of friends (mostly mixed race) and they do not make jokes like this. |
And that’s fine. Some do. And that’s fine too. |
But I don’t believe we’ve heard from a teen in this thread. We’ve only heard from a white dad talking about all the jokey racism that goes on in his house. |
Well since teens don’t come here to post, you likely won’t. I’ll take the dad’s word for it and my Blair kids. This is just how they do. Sorry you don’t like it. |
Are you white as well? |
Yes |
So in summary, the only people on this thread that think that race based jokes are ok are white parents who seem to think we live in a post racial society. Okay then. |
Well when you have a website that’s majority white you’re not going to get a lot of different views. |
Do you think it’s relevant that these parents live in a racially diverse area? I’m guessing most of the pearl clutching people on this thread don’t. |
If you think your teens don't make jokes, read their texts, snapchats, and see what their watching on social media. Mostly it's a bunch of older people in here telling people about kids these days who don't even seem to have or know any teens. The discussion is stale and inauthentic. |
On what authority do you speak? |
It's not that you're getting attacked, its that people are saying the your opinion is different from the current generation of teens and you guys just cant seem to accept that |
You keep missing the point. My opinion, the friend's parents opinion, and your opinion are more or less irrelevant. We're talking about the world the kids live in; we're talking about how the kids see race. |
This. As the Dad that lives in MV, I bet that most of the people criticizing my kid and his friends probably wouldn't stop at a red light at night on Montgomery Village Ave, but are telling me that I don't understand how teenagers talk about race. |
