are "racist text message acceptable now?

I saw my 15 year old discord message and now a lot of "I AM NOT RACIST BUT" then they said something racist about a race, it this common now? I just don't think they should be doing something like that.. Are all kids doing this or should I say something to him?

I think todays kids are fighting back about the policing of language and calling everyone a racist.
What did they specifically say? Was it actually something racist or just a generalization about a specific race? There is a difference.

I dont think kids are racist nowadays, more like theyve grown up in an environment of extreme political correctness and "social justice" and arent quite as wide-eyed about the whole thing as many adults are. Theyve seen the excesses and overcorrections that many adults made in desperate efforts not to be seen as "racist" and I think the term doesnt really have the same sting for them anymore, as theyve seen it thrown around liberally

Was it a true statement or a false statement? It matters.

Your teen should learn to not write messages that can be saved, copied, and republished out of context.

Your answer to this question should not depend on whether “all” kids are doing this (they’re not, btw). You should say something bc racism is wrong, period.

That's some fantasy you have. No, that's not happening.

Also, your distinction is pretty weird. Repeating stereotypes about race is, in fact, a racist mindset. In infer from your comment you think it's acceptable.

But, no, teens are not "fighting back about the policing of language." And, no, people aren't "calling everyone a racist." If you feel like you're being called a racist a lot, that's just a you thing. And it's likely you are, in fact, a racist, especially since you seem to believe repeating stereotypes or generalizations about race is acceptable.

That's a nice narrative you've built there.

The reality is that hate speech is on the rise. Check the government numbers on this ( if you are the sort that would believe the government.)

Naturally sites like Discord and other social media which were not made for kids would reflect this. And kids age growing up feeling that this speech is more acceptable.

Your logic is flawless

Racists have forever disavowed the label while being racist. It's a thing, derivative of the "I have a black friend so I can't be racist" or "I say this about everyone and offend everyone so ergo I'm not racist!" mindset.

The kindest thing you can say is these people think themselves to be good people and feel personally attacked by all this race talk but don't have the brain power to undertake the cognitive dissonance necessary to engage in conversations about race without internalizing them. They also lack the ability to see things from other people's perspectives, namely recognize or validate the experiences of people of color since they cannot personally relate.

There is a difference, but I wouldn’t want my kid doing either one.

It is absolutely happening in the Blair cluster. Where it is very diverse. It’s probably not happening in the non diverse schools, with all their virtue signaling.

I’m glad someone at least agrees that there’s a difference. Because there is. The word racism has absolutely lost its meaning.

There's a big difference between what people/adults say other people should do and what teens actually do. It's strange, as if adults were never teens? Or just think that other teens are/should be different than they were?

Maybe, but its more that at 14/15/16, everything is a joke. Or, maybe everything is an opportunity to get a laugh from your friends.

It's no different from when we were kids.

We live in a very diverse area of MoCo, and its the same across all the kids of that age. It's all racial jokes. And I think its totally fine. It's a way to give themselves power over all of it, and tbh, a way to show they are above. If you're white, and you're hispanic friend makes a lame joke about how bad you are dancing, and you make a joke about their parents being illegals, it demonstrates how they are above the fray.

Now, if it just a bunch of white kids using the n-word, that's different. But context really does matter. Especially at this age
