Does your community pool have a dress code?

"Does your pool club have a dress code?"

Not strictly defined. However, the code of conduct for our pool club requires that all individuals must have "appropriate attire."

We belong to one of the tony Bethesda pool clubs and a large contingent are involved in the swim race club. I have not seen anyone wearing a thong or micro-bikinis (think: Wicked Weasel or Inamorata), teen or mom.

I will say that bikinis have been getting smaller the past two summers relative to the pre-COVID years for both the teen girls and the moms, but it has never strayed from the "appropriate attire" standard. Brazilian-style bikinis have become very trendy again, but that style comes in and out of fashion on a cyclical basis.

If someone walked around our pool club topless, they would be approached by the on-duty pool manager and asked to cover up or lay on their stomach while sun bathing. Similarly, if a man wore banana hammock-style bottoms, I guarantee the pool manager would ask him to cover up.

You know it when you see it.

Isn't it legal for women to be topless anywhere men are? What is the pool attendant going to do?

It might be legal but any pool can define what is appropriate attire. Do you think it’s going to fly to let women go topless at the family pool?

...yes? I just looked it up and yes, women are allowed to be topless. I'm not sure if a public pool can override the law. If you aren't requiring men to wear a top covering their nips it would be illegal to request women do so.

Pool club = private entity and they can make their own rules

Not sure how public parks & rec pools in DC, Arlington, or MoCo would handle a topless woman or a man in a banana hammock thong.

Maybe read the title again. Community pool = public pool, not a pool club or country club.

Yeah, but a lot of the discussion here has been about pool clubs (ie, private pools). Where do you think all these gossipy judging biddie-moms are hanging out? It's not Banneker Pool!

I want to see more men in speedos or really short tight swim trunks, please and thank you.

Just head on over to Francis Pool.

45yo mom here to say that the main reason I wear a bikini is because I loath the feeling of wet fabric on my skin. So unless I’m swimming laps, I’m in a bikini.

I'll keep wearing my bikini. The bottoms are no more bare than the bottoms on your one piece or tankini. Maybe the boobs are showing a little bit more, but not so much that I'm worried they will pop out while playing with my kid. Are you that scandalized because you can see my torso and below my belly button?

OP better not let your kids watch the Olympics!

I guess you don't live here in Hawaii? That's all there is these past 20-some years. All of Hawaii is family-oriented. And it's all strings.

Why would you think someone posting on a DC message board forum would live in Hawaii?

Because the Internet?

Because of the internet it is POSSIBLE to post here from Hawaii. But it's not very likely so why would you assume someone posting here is in Hawaii? That's just dumb.

Anonymous wrote:It awkward for families. My kids say things like - I can see her butt. I tell them to move along, but I wish they wore bathing suits that covers their butts. It’s the same at Whole Foods. Why are some shoppers in a bra and hot pants? It’s not a gym. People don’t wear clothes anymore.

As someone w/ 2 young kids and someone who does not wear skimpy bathing suits myself, people can wear whatever they want and the pool is not just for families/kids! Anyone of any age should be able to wear what they want and go enjoy the pool.

Anonymous wrote:OP here. Cheeky bottoms are one thing. THe suit that made me write the post was a bikini bottom thong showing two full cheeks that looked like underwear. She looked good but I have two boys, one a teenager. If I'm supposed to be keeping him safe from explicit images on the internet why is he seeing near-nudity at the pool?

If your son is a pervert then you've failed as a parent. Maybe you should work on this instead of policing other girls/women.

Boys under the age of 26 have no control over their own behavior. They act without volition. As a society, we need to set up guardrails to help them mature into responsible adults.

This is totally untrue and "boys will be boys" BS. of course they have control.

I thought it simply meant your neighborhood pool that you pay a membership or HOA to get in. So a private pool.

Woman here. You can't tell ppl to stop ogling women's bodies while strutting around in string bikinis--which screams "look at me!"

Not everything is about you. String bikinis are not "sceaming look at me". They are say... hey I want a tan with very few lines.

I guess the bored teens have found this website.

I agree it's a bit much but a dress code that polices women's bodies at a pool is NOT ok. Gross.
