Should I vote republican or a democrat? I despise both parties.

You understand, where the bolded is concerned, that the democrats take a more libertarian view of LGBTQ+ and that by passing laws making, for example gay marriage legal, they are just leveling the playing field for everyone. It is the right that has taken the moralist "marriage is between a man and a woman" stance and has given these issues the airtime that you seem to disfavor. Same with the idea that it takes therapy and medical procedures to affect a gender transition, and that it is the right, on moral grounds, that is making an issue of what should be a private issue between a person and their doctor.

A couple of problems with this take:

1. Democrats allowing natal males to self-ID into women’s sports, bathrooms, locker rooms, prisons, and intimate spaces, as well as men’s crimes being categorized as women’s crimes based on what the male criminal says he is, is NOT “leveling the playing field.” It’s completely dismantling women’s spaces and undermining the rationale for women’s spaces while denying women the language to speak plainly on what is happening (“a woman raped me with HER penis” = no bueno!).

2. Democrats are forcing insurance and Medicaid to cover cosmetic surgeries for people who want to pass as the sex they were not born. That is not “libertarian.” That’s redirecting (misappropriating?) taxpayer and employee funds towards the trans movement and raising healthcare costs at the expense of the non-trans majority in society. It also amounts to discrimination when women can’t get breast implants covered by insurance, but men who want to pass as women can.

3. I won’t even touch the kid-related controversies. If there’s one thing we’ve learned over and over, including most recently through the opioid epidemic, it’s that doctors CANNOT be trusted to self-regulate. The idea that states shouldn’t legislate and regulate the surgical and chemical transitioning of children and should trust profit-seeking doctors to walk away from fat paychecks is crazy.

* * *

It’s important to tell the truth and the fact that trans supporters so often lie about what their movement is up to tells me that it’s not a trustworthy movement and the Democrats’ support of that movement is a huge strike against the party.

Can you explain what the trans movement is supposedly up to? Genuinely curious.

OP I would hold out hope that Trump does not run. I too do not like either party but would take Haley or Christie or a moderate republican over Biden.

If Trump gets the nomination I probably won’t vote at all and default to Biden serving like a few months of second term before being medically unable to; and then suffer through a trainwreck of Kamala.

I’m the pp who said that I think OP grew up a conservative Catholic and I stand by that.

They know it’s a vote for Trump. In their hearts they haven’t addressed what being Republican means, they’re just team GOP. It’s a tribal thing and they love being team GOP, but they also love the feeling they get when they bothsides.

These chumps know they’d be casting a vote for Trump. That’s why they’re doing it.

1. Democrats do not control the NCAA or other sports committees that set guidelines and rules for sports in this country. Those officials are not even elected. And to date there have only been 32 trans athletes. This is a manufactured problem that really affects a very small number of people.

2. Democrats cannot force private companies to do anything. Please see the SCOTUS case of the web designer who doesn’t want to create marriage sites for gay couples.

3. Children are not surgically transitioning in this country. It is against AAP guidelines. Do you know anyone who has transitioned? It is not an overnight process. You cannot just schedule an appointment and have surgery to become a different gender. It doesn’t work that way.

There is so much misinformation surrounding this topic. Much of what gets placed at the feet of Democrats, is out of their control. There is also a lack of critical thinking of the people who make the absurdly wrong claims above. It’s ludicrous. People just pull the dumb arguments out of their a$$es and post them as truth. GTFOH.

You can work that out with Republicans, if you’re this confused. They’re coming for you and on this issue, the majority is with them.

Unless he keels over due to too many burgers, there is less than zero chance Trump is not the GOP nominee. If Johnson is able to take the House speaker position, the 2024 election will be thrown to the House, no matter what the actual results are, and Trump will be declared the president.

But sure, Kamala is a trainwreck.
