Should I vote republican or a democrat? I despise both parties.

Hi OP here. I don’t greatly disagree with this. I’ve historically voted for mostly democrats, and voted Biden in the last election, but did so extremely grudgingly. I truly despise both parties - they make me sick. Also, Biden is unquestionably now too old to be president, but I’ll never vote trump.

It’s sad we are so poorly governed and have such awful people seeking office in this country.

You may be an atheist now but I would wager that you grew up… Catholic, probably, in a family that has mostly stayed Catholic and very right wing. You were able to buck the religious brainwashing but you aren’t able to think for yourself yet. There’s nothing wrong with you, you could, but it comforts you still to wrap yourself in Republican media and framing.

DP you cannot pigeon-hole Catholics. My family has always been pretty hardcore Democrat as well as the parishes where I have lived — except some in NOVA. Many Catholics straddle the divide — anti-abortion but social Justice warrior-types.

Let’s also not forget that Pelosi and Biden are Catholic.

Yes, I know. But OP specifically regurgitates right wing talking points. He sounds like the escaped Catholics that I know from deeply conservative families. They could leave some of the garbage behind but can’t totally let go of the brainwashing. Hence OP’s right wing bent despite clearly having beliefs that are in line with the Democratic Party.

PP- you aren’t that smart or that knowledgeable about Catholics. They are pretty split 49-51% with each election .

Watching how the Republicans are managing the House of Representatives does not influence your leaning at all?

We are paying their salaries through this entire circus. You would rehire those clowns to be in charge????

Heck no. Current Republican leaders are even worse than the Dem leaders.

You understand, where the bolded is concerned, that the democrats take a more libertarian view of LGBTQ+ and that by passing laws making, for example gay marriage legal, they are just leveling the playing field for everyone. It is the right that has taken the moralist "marriage is between a man and a woman" stance and has given these issues the airtime that you seem to disfavor. Same with the idea that it takes therapy and medical procedures to affect a gender transition, and that it is the right, on moral grounds, that is making an issue of what should be a private issue between a person and their doctor.

A couple of problems with this take:

1. Democrats allowing natal males to self-ID into women’s sports, bathrooms, locker rooms, prisons, and intimate spaces, as well as men’s crimes being categorized as women’s crimes based on what the male criminal says he is, is NOT “leveling the playing field.” It’s completely dismantling women’s spaces and undermining the rationale for women’s spaces while denying women the language to speak plainly on what is happening (“a woman raped me with HER penis” = no bueno!).

2. Democrats are forcing insurance and Medicaid to cover cosmetic surgeries for people who want to pass as the sex they were not born. That is not “libertarian.” That’s redirecting (misappropriating?) taxpayer and employee funds towards the trans movement and raising healthcare costs at the expense of the non-trans majority in society. It also amounts to discrimination when women can’t get breast implants covered by insurance, but men who want to pass as women can.

3. I won’t even touch the kid-related controversies. If there’s one thing we’ve learned over and over, including most recently through the opioid epidemic, it’s that doctors CANNOT be trusted to self-regulate. The idea that states shouldn’t legislate and regulate the surgical and chemical transitioning of children and should trust profit-seeking doctors to walk away from fat paychecks is crazy.

It’s important to tell the truth and the fact that trans supporters so often lie about what their movement is up to tells me that it’s not a trustworthy movement and the Democrats’ support of that movement is a huge strike against the party.

Thats a lot of fixation and mental damage being spent on something that impacts fewer than .0000001% of our country. The way you make it sounds, most of the men in our country want the government to pay for their gender transitions all so they can play varsity high school field hockey.

Right, once I debunked your “trans support is libertarian” lie, I knew your response would be a personal attack and a diversion because you can’t refute a single thing I wrote. Silly tactics are par for the course for your aggressive, misogynistic movement. There’s a reason support for your movement has stalled and reversed. Good luck.

Hmmm. Which do you. Think affects— and harms— more people— a complete inability to even elect a Speaker or trans rights. And before you say trans rights are the only issue, the ATC and TSA will walk on day 1 of the shutdown we are about to get because they can’t even vote on a CR. People who need to fly might dusagree with you.

If you despise both parties, you should vote for neither. We're in the toxic and messy political environment we're in because for too long people have been voting for their perceived lesser of two evils put forth by the R or D Party. That practice has given us a lower overall quality of people leading our Federal Government. If you don't think the person you are considering voting for is among the absolutely best of the best candidates for the position, don't vote for them. That methodology would surely rule out Trump and Biden. By continually meeting voter turn out expectations and by 98% of us continuing to vote for nothing but R and D candidates, the two parties are continually being rewarded for their less than ideal candidates and therefore they have no incentive to change for the better.

We are in this mess because of bothsides clowns like yourself.

We are in this mess when people like you and OP can look rationally at the Democratic Party and the Republican Party and their policies and actions and think for even a second that these two parties are remotely the same.

We’re in the mess because people like you who bothsides everything continually vote for Republicans no matter what crap they pull because if both parties are both the same better just move with the herd, right?

We have one functional party and one party that is, on several levels, trying to destroy the government. All of you who profess to hate both parties continually cite right wing talking points about the Democratic Party as to why you hate the Democrats, and not a one of you has any self awareness that you are just regurgitating right wing talking points that have no or minimal basis in reality.

So I guess just keep going on the way you are bothsiders. We certainly have a functioning government that’s totally not being held hostage both in Congress and in military appointments by the GOP and none of our soldiers are in any danger and there are zero humanitarian crises ongoing. So just lie back, relax and think of the flag as you vote Republican.

Not “both” sides. Sad you believe there are only two ways to think. Also the election is only a small part of it.

Yeah, no. The election is literally all of it. As in, you vote for the Republicans there will not be another free election for a very, very long time / ever.

When the Republicans win and there are continuing free elections, will you reassess your baseline? Because there is no evidence the Republican party is planning to end democratic elections.

Check out the redistricting maps that the Republican Party supermajority legislature came out with YESTERDAY.

Where?

Sorry - North Carolina. Meant to include that in my post.

So, trans rights are a predatory mess that Democrats knowingly inflicted on the nation to pander to the rich, white-dominated LGBTQ lobby, but Republicans are worse? Not much of a pitch, but an accurate summation.

Dp- trans rights haven’t been inflicted on me or anyone in my family. They have literally had zero impact on my life, or anyone else I know personally. I’m not saying I agree with any of it one way or the other, just that I’ve literally experienced none of it in my life. Nor have my friends, or family.
Wait… I take this back. I had to use a preferred pronoun of a younger person at work once. It wasn’t a big deal.
