Dating myself, but it reminds me of Spinal Tap where there's a review of "Smell the Glove" that says it's sexist. Nigel says, "well what's wrong with being sexy?"

White people know if they’re Italian, German, Polish, or Scottish. They can certainly take pride in that without being a white nationalist.

I'm a mutt, but very northern European: some combination of German, English, and French. My people have been here since at least the Mayflower. I'm an American and don't really care about my European roots. I understand why those other groups celebrate their roots - they've been disadvantaged compared to the historically dominant groups in the U.S. The disadvantaged white people should join a labor union and celebrate that identity. Because the reason for their disadvantage has to do with social class, not that they're white. Celebrating whiteness is a little like celebrating your identity as an investment banker. Congratulations, but you look like a tool.

Just because you think one way that doesn’t mean that others are wrong to think otherwise. Ethnic identity is important to people for bigger reasons than being disadvantaged. You are in no position to assign an identity to other people. I bet you also have a college degree so can you really relate to uneducated rural white people? I don’t think people seeking a group identity are tools just because they have white skin. Humans seek cultural belonging. It’s our nature.

You're right, I do have a college degree and feel no affinity with uneducated rural white people. So, why in the world would they seek to identify with people like me just because we're both white?

Some do and some don’t. White working class people from rural Nevada? They are pretty far removed from European culture. Culture without language is not much at all and not much of the working class in rural white America speak their native language so they are lost. These are just universal human truths and we need to acknowledge it.

So, let me get that straight... just because the rural whites do not know their cultural roots or not in touch with their heritage, everyone else should forget about theirs? Also remind me why this difference would enable "white nationalism" among the whites?

I said that there can’t be separate rules for different people because humans won’t stand for that. Is that really such a difficult concept? You can argue about it all you want but that will never change anything. They need a positive culture to believe in or else they will be exploited by those with money and power. There are two possible paths: we all decide to emphasize our shared identity that supersedes ethnic loyalties or else white people need to be allowed to have some sort of identity that is not a scarlet letter. This is so obvious and it is presently what we are seeing play out.

LOL. It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

They don’t. They resent you deeply. Don’t you hear them saying that?

All this is great fun but a sitting senator doubled down on white supremacy. There have been and will be no calls from his fellow Republicans to retract that or think about it.

Close the military bases in Alabama and put the whole "space command" based in Huntsville, on hold.

Then you must really, really feel sorry for the descendants of slaves who were brought here against their will, separated from their cultures and forced to speak English. No records exist that can tell them where their ancestors came from.

After criticism from senior GOP members and military brass, Tommy Tuberville is now reversing himself, saying "White nationalists are racists" after refusing to denounce them.

"Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama finally condemned White nationalists, telling reporters on Capitol Hill on Tuesday that “White nationalists are racists,” after previously refusing to equate White nationalism with racism.

Tuberville had doubled down Monday when asked about his previous comments on White nationalism and said it was an 'opinion' that White nationalists are racist."

Well then their love of whiteness makes no sense if they resent the whitest among them such as myself. Whatever it is they want to celebrate, it's not their race.

White is not a culture...

Yes I know, that’s kind of my point. These people need a damn culture STAT or else they will be co-opted by wealthy interests that do not have anyones best interest in mind. It’s happening right before our eyes.

There is a shared culture: being an American. And the most awesome thing about being an American is that it can apply to anyone who comes here and contributes to U.S. society.

The problem: these people wants to gatekeep who is a "Real American" and who gets the power to vote and have rights. Losing that power is causing them to spasm with hatred.

The same thing happened to indigenous european pagans 500 years before that so we all share a similar legacy. Blame christianity.

No the majority of the population in the country families came after 1875 or were forced to come here before 1806.

The Romans wiped out the indigenous European pagan cultures in the same way that the Christians tried to wipe out the Native Americans. The Romans completed the task so there are almost no remaining records of indigenous european culture left today. That has had the same negative effect on white people as native americans. We should recognize our shared humanity. Maybe we could see that we all share a similar history rather than fighting one another.

Can we all agree that the Senators actions are undermining our national security and he is thus acting in a traitorous manner?
