Start from the premise that our political discourse is completely dysfunctional. I think the problem is that many white people in the USA are completely alienated from their own ethnic heritage and traditional culture. They see other groups openly promoting their own shared identity and want the same for themselves. If we don’t allow white working class people to have some sort of cohesive identity that is socially acceptable and positive then this problem will only get worse. The only other option would be to socially limit all talk of identity and ethnic culture and embrace a shared American identity but people don’t seem to really want to do that. I know that the appetite for others to cut any slack to white folk s at an all time low but in the end we’re all in this together and should rise above our differences.

Well, if you want to break it out that way, is the white heritage British? Irish? German? Russian? there are a lot of different backgrounds that make up "white" - have fun with that.

White people know if they’re Italian, German, Polish, or Scottish. They can certainly take pride in that without being a white nationalist.

I'm a mutt, but very northern European: some combination of German, English, and French. My people have been here since at least the Mayflower. I'm an American and don't really care about my European roots. I understand why those other groups celebrate their roots - they've been disadvantaged compared to the historically dominant groups in the U.S. The disadvantaged white people should join a labor union and celebrate that identity. Because the reason for their disadvantage has to do with social class, not that they're white. Celebrating whiteness is a little like celebrating your identity as an investment banker. Congratulations, but you look like a tool.

Go to major cities in the Midwest or NYC. All those groups have heritage parades, ethnic festivals, etc.

It's really just about power - who losing and gaining power due to demographics, hard work, aptitude, etc. The U.S. now has an inherited aristocracy funded by perpetual trusts and they are insecure in their own abilities, thus they are looking to rile up and use (the largely white) working classes for their own ends

So now we're pretending to not know what white nationalism means? Really?

Some do and some don’t. White working class people from rural Nevada? They are pretty far removed from European culture. Culture without language is not much at all and not much of the working class in rural white America speak their native language so they are lost. These are just universal human truths and we need to acknowledge it.

Are you under the mistaken impression that the base of white nationalism is found in major cities with large ethnic populations?

Just because you think one way that doesn’t mean that others are wrong to think otherwise. Ethnic identity is important to people for bigger reasons than being disadvantaged. You are in no position to assign an identity to other people. I bet you also have a college degree so can you really relate to uneducated rural white people? I don’t think people seeking a group identity are tools just because they have white skin. Humans seek cultural belonging. It’s our nature.

The problem we have in this country goes back to the balance the founders tried to make between urban and rural. The Senate is impossibly tilted to the rural, mostly white states. Capping the House at 435 seats means the more populate state House members represent far more per seat than rural House members. And the combination of both of these tilt the Electoral College.

At a minimum, add DC as a state and adopt the Wyoming Rule to make each House seat roughly the same in terms of representation.

So, let me get that straight... just because the rural whites do not know their cultural roots or not in touch with their heritage, everyone else should forget about theirs? Also remind me why this difference would enable "white nationalism" among the whites?

Yes I know, that’s kind of my point. These people need a damn culture STAT or else they will be co-opted by wealthy interests that do not have anyones best interest in mind. It’s happening right before our eyes.
