What do you consider accomplishment? How do you know that the essays are not just a way to filter out "undesirable" asians? |
Current elementary public-school teacher here. So many posters, along with DeSantis, are missing the point. Schools aren't teaching kids to "hate America" - we are, however, making sure that students understand the bad alongside the good. We teach about the Revolution and the Constitution as well as the Civil War, just like we learned when we were in school. I don't believe that a focus on Western civ and Western lit and the Christian-Judeo tradition only is appropriate in our country today, and that's a big part of the problem in DeSantis's plan. Exposing students to the history of the world outside of Europe helps them to better understand contemporary issues. Mini-lessons on famous mathematicians, math history, and math-based careers don't take away from teaching math - they enhance those lessons, as students build connections between topics and better understand what they can do with the math they learn.
Keep in mind that 20 or more years ago we didn't have the pervasiveness of social media and cell phones recording everywhere, so today's students are growing up with more conflicting and confusing information than we did. It would be negligent for schools not to adapt to that reality and to ignore the need to help them navigate it. The vast majority of schools out there are using equity as a push to improve learning and successful outcomes for every student, not to 'dumb down' or ignore achievements of our brightest. The problem is that the ill-conceived or misunderstood initiatives out there make the news. Believe me, those ideas frustrate even liberal teachers and are almost always created by some clueless administrator who can't grasp cause-and-effect. The bottom line for many of us is that we want all students to feel comfortable and confident, regardless of skin color, religion, languages spoken at home, or sexual orientation. BUT we also want these future employers and leaders to be able to look past the skin color, religion, languages, sexual orientation, etc. of others so that they don't make unfair judgements. Stifling their ability to do this because it makes their parents uncomfortable is wrong. |
Not an answer, try again. Show us a school curriculum that has directly replaced the math class with anti-tacism class. If you can't probe the claim, then stop making the claim. |
Loudon still is a mess. |
I bet you did if you make a statement like this. Wake up-republicans are blurring the lines of state and church. And yes they are dumbing down education. Is that what you want for our kids. I don't want to live in another FL. |
It's one thing for parents and the community to have legitimate complaints and to follow civil norms and means of expressing them, such as the ballot box, such as lawsuits, such as filing complaints if criminal wrongdoing took place and so on. But it's an entirely different thing to bombard school workers and school officials and their families 24x7 with hundreds of horrific threats to rape and torture, burn alive, murder... And many of those engaging in the threats weren't even district residents let alone parents. |
If you truly believe equity doesn't matter, then you should put your money where your mouth is and move somewhere like Chickasaw Alabama and enroll your kids there and see how they do. (hint: it's one of the poorest school districts in the country, and predictaby (well, maybe not for you clueless right wingers) the educational outcomes are not great. |
If Chickasaw AL is the place that needs equity then why does it raise its head so often in middle and upper class areas? Can we take all its promoters in those areas and send THEM to Chickasaw where they can actually help? |
Alabama's a red state problem created by clueless Republican voters like you. It can't be made to go away until people like you wake up and change your minds. |
Nope. Abortion isnt my concern. And LGBTQ issues arent my concern. As long as my kids are being excluded, dems will not get my vote. |
No one is claiming that there is an actual class called "equity" or "CRT". We are saying it is in the messaging, the discussions, the activities. You're eventually going to shift your argument from "it's not happening" to "it's good and right that it is happening." The left generally no longer denies teaching "restorative justice" etc. |
Proof that "equity" isnt about helping minorities. Most of the nation's black population is in the south, and your answer to the people of Chickasaw is "red states arent my problem." |
The DMV population is heavily blue and is around 6.8 million. The population of Alabama is just over 4 million. If all of the liberals in the DMV packed up, took their jobs and businesses and everything else and moved to Alabama, it would instantly flip Alabama blue and would increase its GDP, profits, tax base and everything else, and would give the schools far more resources and ability to improve than they have now. And without them, the DMV would implode, schools would lose tax base and regress significantly and things would go into complete decline and soon your schools will be off as bad as Alabama schools were in 2021, because clueless people like you don't know what you're talking about. |
Whoosh. Right over your head. No, that's NOT what was said or what it "proves." |
DP. "Equity" is another ridiculous concept drummed up by the left to further divide the nation. The idea of reaching "equal outcomes" is ludicrous. The emphasis should be on equality. Individuals should all have equal opportunities to achieve/excel. |
