NJ resident here. Jersey food is awesome! My friend would always take a huge bag of bagels back to college in WV with her. DC bagels and pizza are blah to put it mildly.

Agree—I live in NoVa and can find good bagels here, but they still aren’t as good as the bagels from my hometown in South Jersey. And lots of luck finding a pork roll, egg, and cheese around here (though I have found it in Harrisonburg of all places). As for the pizza, there are more good places in my hometown of 10,000 than all of NoVa. And don’t even get me started on cheesesteaks.

Hot take about poor people 👍

Nothing to do with poor people. You can eat healthier food for less money

Another PP chiming in, I grew up poor on free lunch food stamps and fast food. A burger is like 7$ / $10 and fills me and is warm, please tell me where else and how I could get a bread meat fries and some tomato’s and seasoning for $10. Taco Bell was a staple where I grew up.
Your privilege is showing.

I make over 100K which to me is like being a millionaire and I eat super healthy but I’ll never ever judge fast food.

You don't need to eat meat! It's beyond cruel to the animals and also research has shown that a vegetarian diet is healthier.

If you love animals you have to eat them! Otherwise, most of the animals we raise wouldn’t exist at all, and we wouldn’t want to deprive them of their very existence.

Oh, f*** off! Go shove another burger down your piehole!

- we use fresh minced garlic, ginger, herbs, onions, tomatoes.
- we grate our own cheese
- we make our own pasta, pasta sauce, rotis, bread, yogurt, ghee.
- yes to using kerrigold butter.
- we also make fresh cream from raw milk. we use farm fresh eggs. You have to be careful using it and hygiene is very important.
- we grind our own meat instead of buying it from store. The quality and taste is amazing.
- I only use basmati rice imported from India and I make it in the traditional way - wash three times, cook in water like pasta.
- we like quinoa but we no longer eat it plain. we mainly make a spicy upma or pilaf out of it. That is the only way we can make it appealing.
- we make our own tea masala. roast, grind and brew our own coffee.
- we do not use sugar substitute. We use honey, sugar or jaggery. I also make a puree of dates to sweeten my drinks.

$100 says your kids hit Chipotle every chance they get.

Lol. No. Not chipotle because of e.coli concern and because it is easy to rustle up a better bowl at home. We are very good cooks.
However, yes, they are getting huge platters of sushi rolls every time they can from our corner sushi place.

As a Japanese-American person who lived in Japan for many years, saying your kids eat “huge platters” of sushi rolls makes them sounds gluttonous. Japanese people don’t eat “huge” amounts of anything. Gross.

Jersey pizza and bagels a are new york pizza and bagels. Jersey does not have its own food. No one is comparing it to DC.

People who eat meat are thoughtless and cruel. I’ll take the fake meat on occasion rather than knowing my food was tortured and cruelly killed. And the workers doing the dirty work under paid. And the environment polluted.

I think slightly better of those who eat from ethically sourced and kill animals.

Yeah, it's pretty mediocre food but people in NOVA swear by it.

The casual places people in nova rave about are wooboi and taco bamba and they are nothing special

Re Taco Bamba- shut your filthy mouth. Their Brussel sprout tacos and huevos rancheros are heaven.

American cakes (Yes, I am going with American even though people seem to think there is no such thing! LOL) sucks. Absolutely horrible contraptions that should not be called cakes. In that I include American Wedding cakes.
Nothing but best Viennese tortes are good enough for me. You can find such similar tortes in other European countries and those are acceptable too, as long as it is not British cakes. Which are basically American cakes.

New Jersey has excellent corn, tomatoes, blueberries, and peaches.

Everything that people use relish in tastes better with capers instead: deviled eggs, salmon salad or salmon cakes, tartar sauce….
The yogurt in the ceramic jars is what yogurt is Really Supposed to taste like.

There is no such thing as turkey bacon or chicken sausage.

I feel that way about people who use those box mixes for things like banana bread or cornbread. They’re called quick breads for a reason! If you have to add eggs, oil & and water to the mix, you’re not really saving any time over making it from scratch.

I form negative opinions about you if you eat Red Delicious apples or American cheese.

I’m also very snobby about salmon, but I’m from the Pacific Northwest and only want to eat fresh Coho, Chinook or Copper River—don’t come at me with farmed. Related to the PNW thing, I think lobster is overrated; Dungeness crab is far superior.

But, hey, opinions are like a**holes…

Dungeness Crab is the fourth best crab, behind King, Snow, and Blue. It's better than Peekytoe, but barely. It's not even in the same conversation as lobster.

And relatedly, PNW oysters are tasteless blobs. New England oysters only, thanks.

I agree with turkey bacon, but why not chicken sausage? It’s just a descriptor of the shape/technique. It can be any meat.

Democratic Republic of Congo?

On a food chat you post that? You goat.

Domaine Romanee Conti the only “DRC” one could be referencing in this context. Go splurge on some for dinner the holidays. I love the 15 but it is a bit young. Get some 2005 and dive in.

Don't forget porkroll, the king of the breakfast meats.
