Mahout your mouth. Mango and sticky rice is one of the best desserts ever.

Do they mean Asian minus Indian? I love Indian sweets.

Asia is a huge continent, that pp is really kind of ignorant. Good baklava is divine, and there are a lot of other really good middle eastern desserts as well.

I'm married to an Arab so baklava is a must at our house but most of it is cloyingly sweet. It's not an opinion, it's a fact.

My attempts at baklava were disappointing- willing to try my hand at Knafeh. Any favorite recipe/links?

haha me too! I do not do potlucks--I eat what I made because I trust my standard of food preparation and cleanliness and I pretend to eat everything else, unless store bought. lol. Why do people like potlucks?? They're disgusting.

Imagine thinking the pre-cut deli tray from Costco is in any way cleaner or safer to eat than a friend or family member’s home cooked food. It is probably 100x more likely to give you a food born illness.

But a lot less likely to have cat hair in it, or taste like crap.

Cream cheese does not belong in anything other than cheesecake. Casserole, white chili, or any other bland crap concoction I've been served by countless horrible cooks without ability to season. Blech. It's like a black hole for flavor.

I hate Chick-fil-a! Their food is revolting, but not as revolting as their homophobia.

Pretty much all frozen vegetables are also gross. The only exception I can think of is edamame.

Microwaving vegetables is gross. Steaming vegetables is mostly gross (with a very few exceptions, such as edamame and Chinese peapods). Vegetables should be sauteed in butter or oil.

In general, people should never go more than three days without visiting the grocery store. Much better to buy as you use. Use the small basket, not the big carts. Eating fresh is best.

Butter and ice cream from the Midwest (Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin) taste shockingly better than they do on the East Coast. Store brands of these items in the Midwest knock "national" brands out of the park.

American cheese (e.g. Kraft singles) is revolting.

I mean, this is delicious, but not super healthy. Usually when I steam veggies, it's because I'm after the vitamins and minerals.

I think cream cheese belongs on a toasted everything bagel, and I will fight anyone who disagrees.

I've tried baklava a few times and each time it made me feel VERY weird after. No other (sugary) food or dessert makes me feel that way. It must be akin to mainlining straight sugar.

Aww this is adorable. Are you the person starting all the threads asking if certain things are low class?

Please re-read the title of this thread.

Does the title say that no one can mock the PP?

Most people disdaining certain ingredients simply don't know how to cook.

Anything tastes better fried.

White sliced bread from American grocery stores is just vile. How you people oversugar everything!

There is no such thing as a "born chef" or even talented chef. Anyone can be a fantastic cook but you have to want it.

Chicken breasts should be outlawed.

Why though?

South Asian here and I agree. I don't know why but I don't like them either, even if they're well-made with the best ingredients. It might be because our cuisine has been mostly "home kitchen" style, not "haute cuisine" style for a long time, and so the restaurants reflect that? *shrug*

Yes, I said it.

You, sir/ma'am, are outlawed from this thread.

Indeed. Machines making/cutting food in places where tons of food are processed = pest and bacteria palooza. Rats actually advertise raves at such processing facilities. Furthermore, uptight people like that are just painful to be around. So neurotic. So unjustified. So awful.

Some of us know the people making potluck food. These are the same people that leave their food in the office refrigerator until it turns into a science experiment, and don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom. No thank you.

It's a good thing you don't know the people who work in restaurants and grocery stores, I guess.

Hah. Exactly!

Zero flavor. The thighs taste so much better. And in my opinion, it's easy to overcook a chicken breast, but almost impossible to overcook a thigh.

I find many of the South Asian desserts too sweet without much flavor complexity. I also find a lot of things with rosewater taste like soap. In some ways, both those features are good in that you don't eat too much of any one thing
