Taylor also has the BEST production team, which helps her a lot. She should get on her knees to thank Jack Antonoff. |
And yet here you are, commenting on a thread started for this purpose. Guess you're weirder than you thought. |
Oh come on. Good producers help every artist. |
Why is Taylor Swift’s “whiteness” and blonde hair so central to any discussion of her? We don’t continually reference Rihanna’s skin and hair color, imagine the invective if we did! |
Yes! Hello all Brittney fans! We all know she cannot actually sign. |
It’s the tired “dumb blonde” stereotype. |
Straw man argument. Butch Vig helped Nirvana. Nigel Godrich helped Radiohead. Producers help everyone. |
I don’t hate her. I also don’t factor her in. She has no spark to me. I know folks lover her, rabidly, definitely don’t see it. |
(1) I like a few songs, but would not call myself a fan.
(2) I find her persona somewhat off-putting. (3) She is wildly talented. |
You can say what you want about Taylor Swift but she’s a crazy prolific songwriter. She writes all of her own songs. |
Because you can’t read what you’re responding to… PPP said “Good producers help every artist.” |
Patsy Cline and Shania are pretty iconic country, the latter country rock pop. Youd be surprised how many hits Shania has AND how many album sales. Patsy Cline's voice is top notch, she was hardly ever off pitch. |
Most singer songwriters do. It’s part of the gig. |
Precisely. Not just artists that don’t have a lot of talent on their own. So bringing producers into it is kind of irrelevant. |
I think people reference her whiteness and the fact that she is classically very pretty because it runs counter to the way she portrays herself as an underdog. It's deeply weird for a girl who basically won the privilege lottery (wealthy parents who are also supportive, good looks, white, etc.) to constantly be portraying herself as some kind of surprise, come from behind, cinderalla story. As a PP mentioned upthread, her dad moved her family to Nashville to support her music career when she was still a teenager and got her access to really good resource there. But it's frustrating because if you point these things out, Taylor and her fans will accuse you of being a misogynist or attacking her unfairly. But she invites this criticism (and it is criticism, not some attack campaign) by portraying herself as a victim. I don't get it. Maybe early in her career when she was trying to make a name for herself and she was very young, but I don't get why on earth she is still acting like this. It comes off incredibly fake and/or tone-deaf. |
