Taylor Swift is awful (and her music isn't even very good)

This is old but I just came across it and it sums up everything I can't stand about Taylor Swift:

So I'll defend myself in advance even though I know it won't matter: 1) Criticizing Taylor Swift is not misogyny but she works hard to make sure it looks that way by embracing a very specific brand of girl-power feminism so that if people criticize her, she can play the victim. It's a kind of feminism available only to pretty, rich white women with lots of pretty, rich female friends. Also, don't yell at me for criticizing someone who is "young" and "still learning." She's 32. She likes to play the victim and pretend she's just a teenage nerd with no friends, but as the link above discusses, this is an act designed to garner sympathy and, most importantly, sales. 2) I probably am jealous. But I'm not JUST jealous. I also have a point. 3) People can like whatever they want but I can also dislike whatever I want, and I really, really dislike Taylor Swift and needed to share it with the world today. |

I dunno. I skimmed the article and it seems like more click bait for the "every white woman is an evil biotch" trend.
But I will say I think her music sucks and she seems too boring to even think about as a person. zzzzz... |

I have a friend who loves Taylor Swift and every time she has a new album (or, inexplicably, an old album re-released as a new album?) my friend tell me that I am going to "looooooove" some new songs and then I listen to them to humor her (I listen to a lot of music, I am open minded, I'd be happy to discover something new I like) and they are universally boring and repetitive. A few of her hit singles have very catchy hooks and that's it. Her ballads and the stuff really singer-songwriter-y stuff? It's actively bad. And this is not about disliking the genre or disliking women or disliking women solo artists or disliking singer-songwriters, as I like Kacee Musgraves and Courtney Barnett and Angel Olsen. But Taylor Swift is trash. Also my friend bought a Taylor Swift branded cardigan at one point and when she showed it to me I had to refrain from treating her like a person in a cult because (1) it is ugly, (2) it was way overpriced, and (3) ... why couldn't you just go to like Urban Outfitters and buy a non-Taylor Swift branded cardigan. Deeply confused. |

I don't care if you like TS or loathe her, but the explanation for the "Taylor's version" of an album is easy to find and was discussed widely in the context of music as a business. Some people make a major commitment to being Swifties and some people make a major commitment to being sure her fans are wrong. |
