Taylor Swift is awful (and her music isn't even very good)

Oh hey there Taylor. I think many on this thread agree. We can fix this so easily! Why don’t you stand down on the PR for a bit? I mean, you already have over a billion dollars, so why continue like this? Donate all the money to schools, nurses, kids, rape victims, homeless etc except for a couple hundred million. Then, boom problem solved!
Shes literally given away tons and boosted the economy of every city she’s performed in and is very gracious and generous with her money. It’s actually been awesome to see a celebrity give back like she does

+1
Hate her all you want based on music, talent, lyrics, whatever, but you absolutely cannot, with a straight face, say she isn't generous. Ask any food bank of any city she plays in - they get like two years worth of funding from her alone. All proceeds of Welcome to New York go the NYC schools. There's a lot she does.

Wow! You clearly know nothing about charitable contributions and tax deductions!

I work in nonprofit and can only imagine the amazing cushion in funding those food banks now have. That's real.

She literally kept us out of a recession.

TAYLOR FOR PRESIDENT!

I'd love the lyrics to if I were a man. And I agree with her completely. If she were a man, she would not be so criticized. The misogyny.

What are you talking about? People do criticize men who are in the public spotlight all of the time. (People were publicly burning Beatles records at one point. There was an enormous public backlash against the BeeGees. I can go on and on with such examples. Musicians fall out of favor all of the time.)

You need to have a very thick skin to be a celebrity. What’s different about Swift is that she’s cultivated a pseudo relationship with her fans so that they feel like they know her and get very defensive about her. Unlike Swift, her fans don’t have a think skin, hence the over emotional reaction to the typical criticism that any well known celebrity gets.

Dp- both things can be true.
Her fans get crazy defensive
She gets undue criticism

Yeah I hate them because if she were a man she would be an a$$ hole (like her dad). I see the characteristics she claims are highly valued in men as being characteristics of people who are insecure and have little empathy for others.

I would be complex
I would be cool
They'd say I played the field before I found someone to commit to
And that would be ok
For me to do
Every conquest I had made would make me more of a boss to you
I'd be a fearless leader
I'd be an alpha type
When everyone believes ya
What's that like?

All of those characteristics are bad regardless if you are a man or a woman. So why write about them as good for anyone? Might makes right in Taylors world and I don’t buy it. Who wants to be that kind of man or around that kind of man anyway? Not me! Why hold toxic masculinity up as something to be?

No.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. But no.

NYT has reached a new low. This kind of “opinion” piece is not worthy of the NYT. What were they thinking.

She's completely and totally horrible! Eventually the world she's has made for herself is gonna crash down on her. I don't wish anything bad for her at all! She's just horrible and people will realize it soon enough

Dude-- come up from the basement. She has been in the public eye for well over a decade. What rock did you crawl from?

I think Taylor Swift is just immature and likes to have a little group of famous cool girlfriends. She tosses them when they don't align with her brand anymore.

She is giving women permission to be themselves. Their wonderfully stupid insightful trying and excited selves. The mistakes the highs the lows the in between. She’s real. Didn’t we address this in Barbie??

I didn't need Taylor Swift's permission to do this, and I do not get the sense that she gives people in her orbit this "permission" either. Did she give her friend Lana del Rey permission to not join her on stage at the Grammys? No, it's Taylor's world and we're just living in. She IS like Barbie, but only at the beginning of the movie when everything revolves around her, and everyone else's job is to make sure they know the dance moves so they can make sure her party is extra epic.
