Queen Elizabeth II

I have a favor for the DCUM's PPs who are more expert on the royals.

Could you please help us novices understand more by connecting people's titles and their names, for example, "Countess of Wessex (Sophie, Edward's wife)" ? This family tree is a little confusing!

It's offical. CNN is reporting the queen died.

At almost 6:30pm UK time on the dot.

Yup, they embargoed the story until 18:30 GMT.

She probably died hours ago.

I think they waited for William, Edward, and old fart sniffer to get up to her room. But purposefully announced before Harry arrived.

Please remember (or maybe learn for the first time) that DCUM follows a "48 hour rule" which prohibits negative posts for 48 hours following a death. I will be removing negative posts about the Queen after this post.

Pleas use this thread for grieving, discussing the ramifications of the Queen's death, and positive thoughts. Any bickering about Meghan and Harry will be especially frowned upon.

Official Royal Family twitter account is referring to Camilla as Queen Consort.

I can't imagine Charles will pick another name but I'm curious. It just says King not "King Charles"

Look it up. No need to rehash it here

It's literally one of the first things that happen after her death. So yeah, that's why they are assembling hastily. It would also explain why Kate and Meghan are not present - they are not needed as part of the formal transition of power to Charles.

How did this work when Elizabeth's father died and she became queen while she was traveling in Kenya? Is it really a requirement to have the direct relatives pledge loyalty immediately?

They have been doing this for a long time before jets or the phone. They will get there as quickly as they can and do the ceremony.

She ruled for 70 years. That is an era if there ever was one. The second Elizabethan era.

I was also wondering about the other grandkids and if they are making their way to Scotland.

The other grandchildren are not kids of the heir so their presence may be less important for official purposes.

I’m sad that she passed. But she lived an amazing life.

I'm curious why Harry wasn't on the same plane as his brother and uncles. He was supposed to be in London for an event tonight but maybe he wasn't close enough to catch the plane?

Quite the era. So much has changed over the last 70 years.

May Queen Elizabeth rest in peace.

I’m surprised Carol isn’t watching the kids while Kate goes. Unless it has something to do with Meghan not going.

It was their first day at a new school and it sounds like things turned quickly.

It sounds like it happened extremely fast given the timing of when her kids were rushing there to see her and the fact that she was still working on Tuesday (remotely) with the new PM taking office.
