Yup, they embargoed the story until 18:30 GMT.

She probably died hours ago.

I think they waited for William, Edward, and old fart sniffer to get up to her room. But purposefully announced before Harry arrived.

I'm curious why Harry wasn't on the same plane as his brother and uncles. He was supposed to be in London for an event tonight but maybe he wasn't close enough to catch the plane?

Seems like you can’t have too many heirs on one flight.

Where the HECK is Harry? He was in London for an event tonight. What took him so long?

He is not a senior royal.

Perhaps she already passed. Also, if she's just very ill it's probably not appropriate for them to be there.

The kids are in school and therefore possibly exposed to COVID. They don't need to be going to Balmoral to visit their frail and dying great-grandmother.

If she’s dying or dead already I hardly think she would care.

Pleas use this thread for grieving, discussing the ramifications of the Queen's death, and positive thoughts. Any bickering about Meghan and Harry will be especially frowned upon.

I think they were racing against time at that point, given the timeline. Leaving Harry behind so her own children could get there probably made sense.

I’m surprised Carol isn’t watching the kids while Kate goes. Unless it has something to do with Meghan not going.

It was their first day at a new school and it sounds like things turned quickly.

It sounds like it happened extremely fast given the timing of when her kids were rushing there to see her and the fact that she was still working on Tuesday (remotely) with the new PM taking office.

Camilla was about to sit down for an interview with the Today Show when they suddenly cancelled (now we know why).

And they couldn't arrange another one?

The others were likely at Windsor and they depart from a RAF Northolt airfield not far from Windsor. Probably a helicopter from Windsor to the RAF airfield in a few minutes.

If Harry was in the city of London, it would take him quite a while to get to RAF Northolt. Her condition deteriorated very quickly and so they probably didn't have time to wait for him. Plus, he's on The Firm's sh#tlist.

She did a good job with the hand she was dealt. She could have been a floozy like her Uncle or sister. She did her duty to her nation as it was expected of her.

As a somewhat republican Australian who is not particularly interested in the royal family, even I feel a twinge of remorse as Queen Elizabeth was a continuous presence in the background throughout my life.

Yep, at age 96 things can turn suddenly in someone who is otherwise healthy but is just elderly.

And isn’t he off the payroll? No helicopters or planes available to him at a moment's notice or free of charge.
