| It's really weird that Republicans view Teslas as a "rich liberals" thing when a.) a top of the line gas guzzling pickup truck favored by Republicans will cost you more than a Tesla, and b.) Elon Musk is anything but a "liberal." |
Look at the utter incompetence and mayhem among the House Republicans and tell me you expect something better from Republicans. I know you don’t; I know I don’t. It’s like how Republicans like to drive the biggest gas guzzler possible, usually in the worst, most gas consumptive manner, and then complain about HiGh FuEl PrIcEs. They’re just a bunch of whiny teenagers who haven’t lived long enough to learn anything and boy do they get belligerent when it’s suggested that they try to learn. |
Like taking those big diesel guzzling trucks and illegally modding them to "roll coal" which makes them guzzle even more fuel, damages the engine, and spews black oily soot everywhere including all over your big truck and into your own lungs as you roll coal down the road. It's like poking your own eyes out to "own the libs." |
I mean... what's your evidence that they do? I'm a republican and I own 2 teslas. |
|
I'm a bit amused because I'm pretty sure most people on here have never met a Rep or lived in a Rep area.
I am aware of skepticism re electric EVs, and the skepticism does have a point. The battery situation negates the carbon savings. EVs are traditionally a lot more expensive than gas cars and till quite recently didn't perform as well. And I'm sure there was a feeling that there is now a new morality being promoted, dividing people into EV = good, gas guzzlers = bad, and people resented that. Still, I definitely know Republicans with EVs. Teslas and Rivians in particular. |
This is one of the most out of touch places on the internet. |
I'm the pp that is an R and owns 2 teslas. I looked it up, and as of a year ago, Teslas appeared to be a bipartisan car: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/02/03/cars/tesla-buyer-politics/index.html I found other articles that showed that tesla has higher brand favorability among conservatives. This isn't surprising to me at all. All these people railing on dcum about how Republicans hate EVs are out of touch. Republicans are more likely to live outside of cities, and tesla is the only EV brand with the kind of charging network that can handle life outside of cities. So the range anxiety around non-tesla EVs makes perfect sense for their lifestyles. And honestly. Can the left just drop this idea that EVs are greener? They aren't. Our sources of electricity are dirty bc solar and wind are kind of dead on arrival and most of our generation sources are dirty. You can have oil dirt or coal dirt. It's all dirt. |
Solar and wind aren’t “dead on arrival,” they’re growing. What’s not growing? The amount of fossil fuels in the earth.
|
Do you really think these numbers make EVs substantially cleaner than oil? And this isn't even touching the environmental issues related to lithium batteries. I only drive electric vehicles and was a hybrid driver before that. EVs are not as clean as people say. The idea that we will substantially improve the environment by driving EVs is ridiculous. You can only consume fuel as clean as what we have-- and we don't have much clean fuel at all. |
It’s an immovable fact that point pollution is easier to deal with and clean than non point, and as has been pointed out, renewable energy is growing and improving all the time. Electric vehicles aren’t perfect, but they’re cleaner over the life of the car as well as far more efficient. https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-cars-environment-emissions-gas-battery-coal-power-2022-12 |
Because they hate anything couched under "environmentalism", esp since most democrats support environmental progress. It's as simple as that. (And ftr, I'm not saying EVs don't have their problems. Some concerns are legitimate. But they are just blanket opposed, which is just their natural, reflexive opposition). |
You're shocked that people are opposed to having crap shoved down their throats? |
Who has shoved a car down your throat? |
EVs ARE substantially cleaner than oil, even when taking the batteries into account. The info is readily available and it has been common knowledge for quite some time.
