| Maybe they meant UNC, VA and VA Tech Engineering? |
UVA has less than 4,000 seats for the first year class. It’s not huge like UCLA, Cal or Michigan. So 51,000 applications for 4,000- slots. |
Not as large as the largest does not mean small. |
Thanks. I agree! No matter what comes next, she will feel like she made a choice between great options in a crazy year. She sees how it’s playing out for her peers and is truly grateful to have them. |
Very few leave. First year student retention is around 97% |
Your valedictorian is an anomaly. UVA in the 90s was a cakewalk academically compared my public NOVA high school. I can see transferring for purely social reasons, though. That’s the hard part. |
I was with you until the last part about many first gen kids having connections. Do you really believe that? |
UVA s a small flagship compared to other states. That’s why the Commonweslth is pumping money into the other universities tgat have room to grow, like JMU, CNU and GMU, etc. For example, George Mason has 40,000 students, 26,000 of which are undergrads, so entering classes are around 6,500. |
| Any good news stories? |
+1 and I would have been considered first-gen in 1992. AOs sure didn’t care back then. |
Good news as in getting in? My DS got in from non top 3 FCPS. |
Wait, FCPS ranks its high schools ? |
What LAC and it is diverse? Mom of black DD looking for diverse LACs (in terms of black people) and not finding many. DD is a sophomore. |
No, of course not. They have been ranked in terms of their SAT scores. You could search for it here on DCUM. Spoiler alert: It’s pretty much the same as the average household income of the student body. |
They want a weekend cooling off period before the barrage of angry phone calls begins. |
