I don't think USNEWS factors GPA. They have standardized test scores and class rank. GPAs vary greatly state to state. |
Nope. In recent years it has been the same percentage accepted which was surprising to me since there is supposed to be some big initiative to increase diversity. I don’t have the link to the stats handy but it published. |
Lol, here’s our perma-victim. |
The big push is first gen. |
| It’s seemingly tough to be the parent of a reject watching the over the moon parents on the same suburban cul de sac celebrate. In the early 90s, UVA had an in state admit rate of over 40 percent. It’s just brutal now. Chin up and try to transfer if you want to. |
It will be interesting to see how many transfer out after first year. Back in the 90s our valedictorian transferred out and into JMU after freshman year. Just because kids get in, doesn’t mean that they will be able to handle it . They are taking the top ranked kids and throwing them into one school. That makes for a very competitive environment. |
I suspect you are right. My DS is not first generation and honestly I don’t think he should have the same special consideration as someone who is. He has benefited greatly from the connections and opportunities we have given him. |
| I think a lot of kids must be taking the UVA-Wise option. I looked at their profile in SCHEV today and was surprised at how high the GPA was vs a few years ago |
That’s great for your son. Plenty of non-first generation kids don’t have parents with “connections”—and many first generation kids do. |
This was way outside NoVa. Just to show leaving NoVa is not the anecdote |
Huh? It was (and is) Northern Virginia |
Plenty of high stats kids are still accepted. No yield protection. Just too many similar stats...
|
| And deferred FCPS kids accepted? Or FCPS kids accepted. UNCVA and VT Engineering were a bloodbath at our school. |
What is UNCVA? |
