What are your kids saying about how many students/teachers masked today (3/1)?

Anonymous
My family and I have not had Covid to date and we don't want to catch it, so we are OK with masking.

I understand that many people have had Covid - some more than once and they don't care if they are exposed to the virus again. I get why they don't want to wear masks, but I don't understand why they care if other people prefer to mask.

My younger children have been in daycare all of COVID without masks and there has been no outbreaks. Yes maybe a few cases here and there but no outbreaks. You all need to chill.

Most of us really don’t! I assume if you are wearing a mask you have a different risk calculus than I do. It’s ok! But my risk calculus is just as valid. I’m not you, you’re not me, and we are no longer having a public health crisis that requires more than staying home when sick, vaccinating and practicing good hygiene—if the emergency arises again with a scary variant, I’ll put it back on!

So Republicans are doing what Biden said to do.

It will be nice when Covid infections are low enough that people can safely unmask. Waiting for that day, but you do you.

Wait, so the CDC has said that day has arrived here. Did you miss the memo? Or are you doing your own “science”.

I don't care if people are not wearing a mask as long as they are not coughing and sneezing in a public area. I have seen people do this, most recently in the grocery store near food and other people - like WTF?

Ehhh, it’s March in DC. Everyone is sneezing. 🌸 but yeah, cover your mouth people.

I got the memo and I actually read it unlike you. The guidelines released Friday are based on the level of disease spread and hospital resources on a county-by-county basis. They also are based on personal risk factors. So no, the CDC did not say everyone is clear to unmask.

2nd grader said 5-6 kids were unmasked
4th grader said 10 kids were unmasked
6th grader said 2 kids were unmasked

Same school, interesting how much it varied.

I used to think we were Center Left, Rational, Data-Driven. Our political culture is becoming San Francisco East without the charm and beauty.

Daughter at GFES said ~2/3 of her class was unmasked yesterday.

Following this thread makes me happy that we live in one of the more sane parts of the county. At the end of the day, who cares how many students are masked or unmasked? The great thing about the new rules is that everyone gets to make their own choice. (And, if one follows the actual -- and not just the political -- science, one should know that unmasked students are not putting their masked classmates at any materially higher risk of Covid infection.)

Interesting, my son at GFES said he was one of a few without masks (like five in his class). Most kids still wearing them.

PP here -- I'm sure it varied by class. Our daughter is in one of the younger grades, and my sense from talking to neighbors and others at the bus stop was that far fewer kids in K-2 were wearing masks than those in the higher grades. One neighbor sais that his son (also in a younger grade) told him that only ~5 kids in his class were still wearing masks at the end of the day.

Lol

Listen I agree Orange Man is bad but we all know it’s the Dems who were in love with trying to force Trump’s vaccine on everyone and trying to make everyone wear masks.

Poll numbers are bad so it’s time to acknowledge that Covid zero is not a thing, Biden can’t crush the virus, schools should be open and healthy people don’t need masks and pretending they do is weird.

Blue team is losing the game and changing their strategy. Don’t be grumpy, they have until November to try and make everyone forget who was more likely to keep schools closed, force masks on healthy children and try to require them to get a shot with as yet unknown side effects to participate in sports lol.

My first grader said everyone in his class and his teacher were masked yesterday. We gave him the option but he's not very confident so I think he will unmask when many other kids are unmasked.

I am the PP you quoted. I do GAF and have followed the guidance from the CDC the whole pandemic. But if you think some cloth mask that young kids aren't even wearing over their nose 100% of the time is effective at preventing COVID then you are delusional.

I told my DD she could chose and she chose not to wear a mask. I told her that we have to be respectful of all people's decisions (unlike you) and that if someone was masked or unmasked it was between them and their parents.
